Mimosa is recommended in the Rough Guide, and the host is an excellent source of information and help. The rooms are functional, but what would you expect from little as $4 a night (single) The hotel is wifi and offers free computers. Breakfast also.
I had the pleasure of hiring a bicycle for $1 to get around Hue, I recommend this as the distance to the citadel is quite a trek (if it is hot), The hotel is down a long alley where there are other guesthouses/hotels. It is also about 3mins walking to the DMZ bar, which is in many guidebooks. try the restaurant opposite, nice friendly staff, the one with lanterns, next to post office.
I found myself booking a roadtrip up to the DMZ with the hosts brother Nam. He is as safe as Gordon Banks on the road. He will also accompany you to all the sites and into the museums. If you want to spend time at the DMZ, then this is worth the money, a coach trip, as I have learnt from fellow travellers is very short on time at the sites offered. The tunnels are a must for any visitor to the DMZ. Nam is contacted on 0905996560. he will also take you round the city by bike, my Spanish friend did this and enjoyed it very much. You can also go with Nam to the mausoleums, which are slightly out of town. Nam will take you by moto to Hoi An should you so wish, quicker than by bus(4hrs). The hotel will even arrange pick up for your next stage of your journey
