“Great service and staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

The staff make Blue River Hotel a really enjoyable stay. We returned here after venturing out to the islands for a while and were happy to be back at the Blue River. Their staff were extremely helpful, giving us assistance in sorting out some bookings that we would've otherwise struggled with.

Room Tip: It's a long way up to the top rooms - try for a lower one unless you need a workout!

Blue River Hotel is situated in a small clean and relatively quiet side street off Pham Ngu Lam Street opposite 23/9 Park (site of the original central railway station).

It is an ideal low cost base to explore HCMC and do the Lonely Planet walking tour.

Breakfast is good with fresh crusty French-style bread rolls, fruit, jams eggs, omlettes, the obligatory noodle soup, fruit juices, tea and coffee.

Rooms are clean with good shower room, flat screen TV and bar fridge. We had one overlooking the street and slept very well.

Free Wi-Fi is available and accessible throughout.

The real bonus of this hotel is the warmth, hospitality and assistance that Thuy and her colleagues Thu and Thu provide at the Front Desk. Everyone it seems, ourselves included, had a long list of travel and onward booking queries that needed assistance. Thuy and her staff did wonders in dealing with all of this efficiently and with a smile – they keep a detailed log book of all requests – taxis, phone calls etc - so that nothing is over-looked.

We were particularly pleased with their advice and assistance in getting an Air Con Coach from HCMC to Can Tho. They booked the coach tickets by phone (110,000 VND per person) and arranged a taxi from Blue River Hotel (45,000 VND) to the bus company office from which we got the free shuttle bus (every 5 to 10 minutes at 0800) to the Bus Station. We were the only European-looking people at the bus station which was a surprise to us – no idea how everyone else gets to Can Tho. The coach itself was very modern and comfortable. The journey to Can Tho takes around 4 hours including a 30 minute stop at a superb place for lunch. There are buses to many other Mekong Delta destinations from the same bus station.

They also got some delayed train tickets to us and recommended a beautiful authentic Vietnamese restuarant way-off the tourist track in a quiet residential street which we visited en-route from the airport (having flown back from Phu Quoc) to the railway station for an overnight to Nha Trang.

All in all thanks in particular to Thuy and her colleagues Blue River Hotel is a great place from which to explore HCMC.

My family and I traveled to Ho Chi Minh City for 6 nights. This is my first trip to Vietnam and my 23rd country to visit in 2 years.

The room I stayed in was the Superior Twin. The hotel is located in the heart of the backpackers district. Plenty of things to see, do and eat. It's a walkable distance to many things. The rooms are clean and affordable, containing everything one would need for a comfortable stay. Free WiFi, air-conditioning, fridge, flat screen TV with plenty of channels, shampoo/bath gel. The complimentary breakfast is a nice touch.

The staff are really what makes this cosy hotel great! Both receptionists bend over backwards to ensure that you are happy and taken care of. All our requests were taken care off quickly and efficiently. I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner/manager Thuy! She is fantastic and you can tell that she really cares for her patrons, hotel and staff. I look forward to meeting them again.

I cannot wait to go back to this city and when I do, you can guarantee that I will be staying here.

Room Tip: The elderly or unfit would benefit from getting a room on the lower floors.

great location with nice local shopping but the guesthouse is nicely tucked away in a quiet location. The room was very clean and can't beat the service for what you pay. Breakfast serves french baquette, eggs, coffee, and fruits. Very simple yet very satisfying and it's already included in the room rate. This seems like a family owned business and staffs were really attentive, friendly, and just genuinely nice. Will defitely stay here again when we come back to Ho Chi Minh in the future.

My group booked 2 rooms here for a total of about 2 weeks. They were very accommodating and we were made to feel very welcome. Our rooms were very clean and were kept that way for the entire stay. The street that the hotel is located on is small and quiet so we had no problem getting a good nights sleep. The receptionists (affectionately known as Anh Thu-1 and Anh Thu-2) went above and beyond to make sure that we were happy. I highly recommend this place and will probably book here again on my next stay.
