I stayed here for a little over a week. I checked almost every hotel in the Pham Ngu Lao area and chose this one based upon the niceness of the room. This is not a backpacker hotel like many in the area, and is priced higher accordingly. Many hotels in the area do not have an elevator--this hotel does. I stayed in a VIP room and negotiated a discount. I will stay here when I come back to the area.
The VIP room is spacious. The bedroom area is separated from a seating area. Windows are a massive selling point, there are three in the room. The one in front of the bed is massive. For me, this was a large selling point. I left the windows open at almost all times and felt like there was privacy. The area is very built up, but the windows all open to space that isn't too busy. No matter where you are, there is a window to look out of. This includes while standing in the toilet, which has a window that is just high enough for me to look out of, with opaque glass obsuring anyone being able to look in.
The bathroom is also a selling point. It is large. There is a bathtub, a large sink space, and a hairdryer. The room comes equipped with air-con, a small refrigerator, tv, and a dvd player. Wifi in the room is strong and constant.
The power is turned on by placing a key in the slot. This would be fine, except that the aircon in the room is not very strong. It takes a long while for the room to cool. This is a big negative for me. When I return during the evening, I want the room to be comfortable for me as quickly as possible. The solution became pointing the air-con directly onto me on the bed. I would have to wake up in the middle of the night and adjust the air con higher once the room cooled. For someone this is paramount to, this would be a reason not to stay here.
The service is very good. Room service would enter and clean my room quickly, and based it around when I left the room. Reception was solid and helpful. Breakfast is included in the room, and it was fine, not great or bad, not really a selling point. I never used the restaurant otherwise. The night watch was fine, though he was asleep in the very early morning. Anyone could, theoretically, walk into the hotel and get into the elevator. If the night watchman didn't hear them, they would never be checked. This could either be a positive or negative depending on who you are.
Another negative is that outside is rather noisy until about midnight. This is a negative for the whole of the area . . . Almost everywhere is noisy until midnight.
The windows made the room for me, along with bathroom and room service. Air-con and noise was the negative. This hotel is among the best quality in the area, and is worth staying at.
