“Excellent choice for HCMC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2011

This is excellent for a 2 stars hotel. I paid 8 usd for the Car fare from the airport. There was no hassle at all from the moment checked-in. The staff are quite fluent in English. Very friendly and helpful. the superior room is spacious, but i like the privacy and the environment of this hotel. Simple with modern room amenities decorations. The breakfast was good . Most of the guest find it very useful. Lobby looks so welcoming. Its just less than 10 mins walk to the Ben Thanh market and so many other shops around. It's really worth to stay here.

They overcharged for water puppet tickets and blatantly lied about services offered. They refused to let us speak with the manager and they threatened to call the cops when we asked about why we were being ripped off purchasing tickets through their front desk. Truly a very disheartening experience in Vietnam!

After 24 hours journey, we got some troubles with taxi driver who took us from airport to city center . We softly landed at the Duna Hotel .
Stuff in here (especially Min Anh) were extremely helpful and equipped us with great advices. The last day before leaving Vietnam , i got cough serious and he helped me to feel better by chatting and serving free hot tea .I highly appreciate for his kindness .By that , we will come back to stay here again next year .
The hotel is perfectly located nearby the Ben Thanh market and city center.

We made the mistake of booking this hotel for three nights from the airport. After our FIFTH room assignment we found one where everything seemed to work, except there was no Wi-Fi connection for the sixth floor. (I believe any Wi-Fi signal above the 2nd floor is precarious as best.) Don't waste your money. We moved to the Liberty Hotel just down the street and found it to be worth the extra money.

This hotel is fair enough if you want the backpackers area's sizzling busy life. Rooms are relatively clean and they don't overcharge you. Staff is friendly.
They claim to have free wifi - well sometimes it works, but most of the time it's down.

Our only bad experience: air con was broken so we had to use the fan, which is not so good in a 30-dollar 'deluxe double bed room'.

During our three week holiday in Vietnam we stayed at Duna hotel for three days. The location is excellent, in the middle of Saigon. The rooms offer reasonable quality for the price. That is, if you don't count the 120 US Dollars that were stolen from one of our backpacks. Fortunately, we didn't keep any other valuables in the room. It can only have been stolen by staff since the room was locked at all times and we left the key at the reception.

The hotel is closed early every night and it's a hassle to get in. Also, we booked one trip to Cu Chi at the travel-office in the hotel and were happy with that, so we decided to book our traintickets to Hoi An there as well. We later found out that Duna's travel office had sold us cheap reservations insisting they were expensive (soft-sleeper) tickets. Once you find out at the train station, there's not much you can do. Duna was by far our worst hotel-experience in Vietnam. So, not recommended, and there are plenty of good alternatives nearby!

I don’t know if we were lucky or if the other visitors had bad luck but Duna hotel was the best hotel out of three we stayed at during our visit in Saigon.
We stayed at the 9th floor with a view over the city for 18$ with AC and wasn’t bothered at all of the traffic. The room and toilet was big compared to the other hotels we stayed in. The breakfast was ok, you could choose between different dishes with egg, bread and coffe/tea.

I can agree that you could easily hear your neighbors from your room but we could do that in all the hotels we stayed at. We didn’t have any problems with stealing and we used the safety box at the reception for our valuable properties with no problems.
The front desk staff were really serviceminded and friendly and always with a big smile. They helped us with our airport transfer with Visuna Taxi for 8 $, maybe it would be cheaper if we fixed it by ourselves but it was an ok price. One hotel took 13 $ for airport transfer. Unfortunately we could only stay at Duna hotel for one night. The hotel is in the backpacker area in district one, close to Ben Than market and restaurants.

Some more tips
The war museum is closed for lunch during 12-13,30. Bring lots of water because it’s really hot inside.
The night market at Ben Than area is even better than Ben Thahn market inside. The night market starts around 6 o’clock pm. The Saigon square is also a good market, in the corner of Le loi and Nam KyKhoi Nghaa. Those markets where better than Tax Department store.
Garden BBQ at 135 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia street is a wonderful restaurant where you BBQ your own food, cheap and very tasty. But be there early or late if you don’t want to wait for a table because it’s really popular.
Bring dollar with you and exchange to Dong, the higher value, the better exchange rate.
If you want new glasses, go to Le Thanh Ton street, the street has the most eyeglass stores. You can have the glasses ready the same day or the next. I ordered my glasses on Eye Wear Joy at 44-46 Tran Hung Dao street and Dai Quang optics at 116 Thanh Ton street and can recommend both stores.
