“lækkert billigt hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2007

Highly recommend this hotel to any mid-rangers/flashpackers. Central to all areas in Pham Ngu Lao and walking distance to Ben Thanh and Dong Khoi areas (longer walk) but in the very quiet and not as highly trafficked area of Bui Vien. Spacious and clean room, excellent bathroom and reliable air-con.

The best feature of the hotel however is the amazing Ngan at front reception- always ready to help with making arrangements and clearly overworked she goes about her work with absolute charm and efficency.

We booked half-day tour to Cu Chi with the travel desk in reception which is affiliated with TNK Travel and had a hassle-free if somewhat generic 'tour' experience. The guide Khanh will stay in my memory for a long time - he had encyclopedic knowledge and fantastic wit.

A must-do if you stay at An An is to sample the fare of the omlette lady near the front reception tucked inside Minihotel Alley. She is hilarious and the omlette baguette and vietnamese coffee were spectacular - Open 6am til 12.

For some reason finding a hotel in Ho Chi Minh was quite difficult. Thanks to Trip Advisor, everything worked out!

My friends and I stayed in a triple, which ended up being a double and single bed. Room was pretty spacious, as well as the bathroom. Bathtub was a good size. AC took awhile to get cool, especially since it only comes on when you're in the room.

Pluses: Price, elevator, location, the lady who makes great Vietnamese sandwiches and coffee right outside the window, they can book trips and transportation for you.

Minuses: AC not cold enough, a lot of vendors trying to sell things to you (but that's pretty much all over Ho Chi Minh). Watch out for the kid trying to shine your shoes - he got pissed off at my friend when he told him not to glue his shoes back together!

The airport transfer to the hotel was a great idea, after arriving later in the evening it was preferable to braving the taxi scams of Vietnam.
The room was large and well fitted out, but the decor was quite dated. Shower was excellent. The lack of breakfast was disappointing for the price. It was very easy to find a cheap breakfast due to the good location though!

  • Disliked — Lack of breakfast for the price paid

After arriing in Ho Chi Minh City, our first stop in Vietnam, there was no taxi to meet us (as promised by the hotel), however this was the first and only time the hotel let us down. The travel desk at the front organised our excellent tour to the Cu Chi tunnels and Cao Dai Temple as well as our flights to Hue.
The room was basic but clean with plenty of space and a safe deposit box. We had asked for a quiet room which we received high up in the hotel which is no mean feat to get a bit of quiet in Saigon.
All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the hotel was in a great location for bars and restaurants and a short walk from the market and the "posh" centre of town.

The An An was a nice, friendly, clean place with super large rooms. I always felt comfotable in the hotel, and very secure. Right in the Pham Ngu Lao district, but out of the real madness of De Tham and Pham Ngu Lao, it was a great location- right down the road from the Go 2 bar.

Room had aircon, minibar, satellite TV, the bed was comfy. The bathroom was clean, but a little worn around the edges. Certainly a decent size bathroom by Vietnamese standards.

Staff were young and friendly, and fairly helpful. There is a TNK tour desk in the hotel, and I can definitely recommend the Cao Dai temple / Cu Chi tunnels day trip.

Quite expensive by Pham Ngu Lao area prices, especially as it doesn't offer breakfast or a blacony, but a really nice place nonetheless

After arriving in Ho Chi Minh City without booking any accommodation we tried to stay in the An An Hotel, however finding it was full we stayed in the An An Hotel 2 instead. The room it had good AC, double glazing in the window (essential to keep out the noise) and comfortable beds, the more expensive rooms have a safe which was very useful. They also offer a cheap and good laundry service.

The hotel is still being built to an extent, but when we stayed on the second, fourth and fifth floors we didn't hear any construction noise, though when overlooking De Tham we did hear some noise from the Go Go Go Bar, even with the double glazing. The staff at the hotel were excellent, and the reception staff were brilliant, and when we locked up our safe they fixed it in 5 minutes, and when the computers for free internet overheated they fixed them by the following morning. Along with every hotel in the country they offer a tour service, but there was no pressure whatsoever to use their tours, we booked with the Sinh Cafe up the road instead, but I'm sure the hotel booked tours would have been fine.

The hotels location is excellent at the bottom of De Tham it is diagonally opposite the excellent Go Go Go bar (undoubtedly it'll undergo a rename at some point), which unlike bars in other parts of the country stays open until the small hours. Across De Tham there is a 999 mart which sells cheap bottled water, and there is also a shop selling foreign stamps on the other corner leading to a brilliant location. However as this is De Tham along with the usual offers to sell you photocopied books, cyclo and motorbike rides, there are people offering you drugs and prostitutes. If you ignore them though they offer no problem (they are much less persistent than other sellers) and there are also often tourist police nearby to keep them under some control.

  • Liked — The service
  • Disliked — Noise from across the street, though the hotel did their best
