“Overall very good but rooms are small”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

We had a lovely weekend in Saigon and this was a great place to stay, everything was in walking distanc, the breakfast was excellent, the staff were wonderful. We had a poolside room which was great and the pool was a real oasis. The cocktail bar is super cool and serves great drinks, the main restaurant is pretty good and they went out of their way to accommodate my dietry requirements. The spa was also very good. On the downside the rooms are tiny and the furniture is way too big for the room making it feel cramped. Similiarly the bathrooms are weird in layout and as a result feel much smaller than they are. The italian restaurant is not great for dinner.

Room Tip: Pool rooms are good but small

My husband and I stayed at the Park Hyatt Saigon as part of a tour we took with Uniworld in December 2013. I have nothing but praises for this hotel. When we found out that Uniworld had requested twin beds for us they quickly took care of it and switched us to a room with a king size bed.
The room was very large and beautifully appointed. We loved the bathroom with a "wet Room" - tub and a walk-in-shower all combined with multiple shower heads, the separate WC and the large vanity were also great with all the needed amenities. We appreciated the fact that our American style plugs could be used without adaptors and liked the free Wi-Fi.
The breakfast was also very good and in our case included in the price. They had a nice buffet with many choices. We had drinks and a cheese plate at the bar one evening and were impressed with the good service and the entertainment since they had a piano player and a very good singer. The location is also perfect, across from the opera house, restaurants and shopping if you are brave enough to cross the streets in Saigon.

Stayed only 1 night there for business. However, was very happy with the stay. The hotel's colonial decor is charming, guest room is of good size, room amenities are high class and hotel's location can't be better. It is in the very central of Sai Gon.

Martini Bar is one of those few nice bars in Sai Gon for a drink of two.

I do not want to rate a hotel low for a single experience in the lobby, but my impression was much worse than 3stars.

I am staying in the Rex and was looking for a better experience, so I stopped by to switch to the Hyatt.

I was not greeted at reception, but there was a lot going on when I arrived. I looked for any kind of marketing materials to see what services where available (tour, pool, breakfast, whatever else I could glean while waiting) and there was nothing available.

The receptionist noticed me and asked how I could be helped. I asked what services where available, she became confused. I gave several examples and she said none were available. I asked again, do you have tours? Yes. Do you have a pool? Yes. What else do you have? Nothing. What is included with the room price? Internet only. Do you have any information on the hotel that I can look at? No. What is the room rate? Let me look, what type of room do you want? Something equivalent to the governor suite at Rex. (A few click later) that will be xxx per night. Well that is 4 times more than my current rate, surely your hotel must have some value? No. Can I use my Hyatt passport? No, this is the Park Hyatt.

At this point I did not know what to say. Obviously there was no additional value in the hotel, they operate outside the rules of Hyatt and more importantly I got a great first hand impression on the quality of people that would serve me. Regrettably I stayed at the Rex, and will not bother HCMC Park Hyatt again.

The Park Hyatt is an excellent city hotel. It's not excellent "for Vietnam" - it's just excellent. Our group arranged for airport transfers and when we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted as we got out of the van and escorted directly to our rooms where they did the check in process. The staff is incredibly professional and friendly. The rooms are lovely and there were small gestures made - a little box of sweets with a note - and later another box with a chocolate brownie type item as a Christmas gift.

They get all the little details right - bars of soap that are three times the size of the little soaps most hotels give you, a loofah, all the types of toiletry items you might need in case you forgot something.
One afternoon after touring we went out by the beautiful pool (located in an outdoor couryard on the 3rd level of the hotel) and had lunch there (quite good). After lunch was cleared away, two of us continued sitting at the table talking and someone brought us ice water. Later, we were sitting by the pool and again someone came up and gave us a cold bottle of water. Nice, thoughtful touches.

The breakfast is excellent - a large buffet is laid out, and then there is also an a la carte menu. I had the eggs benedict and the poached eggs were cooked to perfection. 3 of the people in our group had an Asian breakfast with a pork chop, eggs and other condiments and loved it.

My husband, a friend and our two teenage sons checked out the spa - took a sauna and jacuzzi and completely lost track of time becuase they enjoyed it so much.

One of the people in our group is a loyal Four Seasons guest - but she said that after staying at this Park Hyatt, she would be looking into staying with them in the future.

In addition to all the above positives, the hotel is located in a very nice neighborhood with easy walking distance to some of the biggest attractions (the Opera House, the cathedral, the post office, the War Remnants museum, the Reunification Palace) as well as upscale shopping and great restaurants.

Well done.

An excellent hotel. Very nice rooms and super (friendly) service. The outdoor swimming pool is an attraction in its own right, with drinks and food service. Food was great. What stood out for me was a very small touch, but to have tea making facilities in your room with a proper tea pot is spot on. Location is ideal to explore the main tourist attractions. Also clise to restaurants and bars if you wish to venture out. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and will certainly book again if visiting the city. Super.
