“Uber-groovy, loved staying here.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

Booked one night here and ended up staying 3, then returning again for our final night in Vietnam so a total of four nights. Three of us had the family room on the 6th floor, with a little balcony, nice bathroom and comfy beds. To us it seemed like luxury after travelling for 2 weeks in 1 and 2 star accommodation. The location is great, in the stylish Dong Khoi area, with a short walk to the river, and the Ben Thanh district, and lots of attractions nearby.Yummy breakfast is served on the rooftop, and it makes a nice place to sit with a beer or wine in the evening, with a sneak-peek at the river. But I think the best thing about the Saigon River Boutique are the people who work there, so friendly and helpful, and attentive. Kelvin and Daniel had a million questions & requests from us, all of which they answered with sincere smiles. They even organised a take away breakfast for us when we had to depart early. This is the perfect choice if you want somewhere central to District 1 with a little luxury and a lot of heart.

Room Tip: Family room on 6th floor has a massive window and little balcony.

Thank you so much for your generous review, as it is easy to be consumed by day to day issues, on returning home, after ones travels.
We are quite passionate about providing a special place for our guests to stay and have done a lot to bring about a creative change to our hotel. Of course the physical changes pale, if one does not feel there is any real communication and care provided during ones stay.
I love hearing positive feed back, particularly about our staff, as I am enormously proud of them and feel rewarded by witnessing the staff's professionalism. Many people chose employment in hospitality, but the numbers drop dramatically, once it comes down to genuine customer care.
Our hotel is small and our approach with our guests is to provide an informal, friendly and fun place to stay and of course when our guests are like yourself, then our roles are always become a pleasure.
Thank you again for caring to express such a positive review.

Only stayed 1 night but wished we could have stayed longer. Lovely boutique hotel, amazing attention to detail from the stylish lobby to the gorgeous roof terrace where breakfast and other meals are served. Would highly recommend staying here, such a warm and friendly team who made us feel so welcome.

Thank you for your positive comments and it may have been that you were only a guest for one night during your travels, but how rewarding it is for both parties, the guest and management, when you meet and instantly get on well.
I sometimes have to remind myself that I am communicating with guests and not just with old friends, as at times it seems like one continuous party. Is that not good? We are so fortunate to have so many really lovely guests, with some only able to be with us for a short period and others either staying for some months or perhaps are guests who make repeat visits. Really all are welcomed as part of the Saigon River 'family'.
Our hotel has only been open a relatively short period in Sai Gon and we continue to define and make improvements in all areas that will make our guests time with us a special one.
Many thanks again for your review and hope one day we can welcome you back, should you journey again to SE Asia.

This hotel is well located in Saigon's Old French Quarter a few steps from Dong Khoi Street (previously Rue Catenat) made famous in Graham Green's novel "The Quiet American". It is surrounded by 5 star big brand hotels but its contemporary design, stylish interior and friendly homely appeal more than competes with its rivals. Major attractions such as the Opera House, Old Post Office and Notre Dame Cathedral are close at hand and Saigon River a short walk. A feature of Saigon River Boutique is its roof top bar and restaurant, which looks over to the Saigon River. Here we sometimes took breakfast with Graham the owner and had long informative discussions about life and culture in Vietnam. Our room was stylishly modern, comfortable and well kept with a small balcony which unfortunately looked out on a refurbishment project. Service is excellent being both helpful and attentive but using the words of Sir Elton John "Daniel your a star" - Daniel is the assistant manager with the unique hairstyle!

Room Tip: Choose a front facing room with balcony overlooking the atmospheric street

Talkative Graeme 'The Boss' responding, also sometimes referred to by one staff member as 'Mr Stickler' . I am proud to say however that I have been able to now hand that title back, as many staff members have now become 'Mr Stickler's' too.
Once again I have to say we have great and appreciative guests coming to stay with us, so thank you for writing a guests review. I am so happy some of my advise made your time in Sai Gon a more rewarding one.
Sai Gon is truly an amazing city and despite the global economic down turn, the city continues experience amazing growth. Some projects have stalled, but many continue, I guess in part, simply because growth continues, driven by SG being one of the works most densely populated cities.
I am basically a country guy and I am in awe of the growth and excited seeing so many buildings continuing to spring up all over the city. So one has to keep this in mind in relationship to your travel experience. Sai Gon is a huge city and a noisy one. It has also become once again, the pulsating and exciting that it had been from the French Colonial days, until pre 'American War' , as it is called in Vietnam. Anyway I guess I should be saying Xin Loi ( VN for excuse me) for the noise, and hope your time in SG was not too disturbed.

we stayed two nights here and loved it. the location of the hotel, and the friendliness of the staff, Nigel and Kelvin were fantastic. we had a problem with the room AC unit the first night and were offered another room, no problems.
Graham the boss, was friendly and helpful with knowledge of where to eat and visit...

Room Tip: the front rooms were noisy as there was building action going on outside.

Loved my four day stay here. Really delightful, fun, brilliant staff. Stylishly done, incredibly welcoming. Actually very sad to leave! If you are at all claustrophobic don't go for room with no window (standard practise in Vietnam for cheapest rooms). But would recommend in a heartbeat and would love to go back.

I was immediately curious as to who owned the small pink motor bike, with a brooding transfer of Che Guevara, parked outside our hotel. Proved to be a delightful and intrepid traveller who had journeyed from Ha Noi to Sai Gon, which is quite a journey on such a tender steed. Sleeping each night, roadside and with only a hammock as home, set a bench mark for future travelers and guests of Saigon River Boutique Hotel.
You may be thinking, no wonder the guest enjoyed their stay, as our accommodation would not have to be good, to be better than a roadside hammock. The case is though, that our trusty guest reflected in the extreme, what a great lot of interesting and appreciative guests we have. Great to welcome, but sad when it comes to say good bye, of course. Happy to say though that we are able to welcome many guests back for return stays and that we have a number of guests who have come to stay for a few nights and are still with us several months later, much to our delight. Our hotel is their home.

We stayed in Saigon River Boutique hotel for 3 nights and were very satisfied. Although the room was small it was very clean and nicely decorated, lovely shower room although the shower head had to be hand held. Breakfast was adequate in a lovely roof top setting with pleasant staff. The location was good within walking distance to most sights but quiet on a night. The outstanding feature for us was Daniel the receptionist who went the extra mile to be helpful and friendly. We would recommend this hotel without reservation.

Room Tip: A room with a window maybe a better choice

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your response on Trip Advisor. I think that we are extremely fortunate to have so many really lovely guests, as it makes our hotel the way we want it to be, friendly, caring/sharing and creative.
The Hotel is newly renovated and in fact not formally opened yet. Amidst clouds of offering smoke we had our Buddhist Opening and so now we are focusing on the fine tuning of our small hotel. Simply the problem of the hand held shower hose will be addressed and we appreciate that you brought this to our attention.
Our breakfasts have always been good quality, well cooked and often made from ingredients grown on one of the hotel terraces, as we aim to be as Eco friendly as possible and we are about to launch our much more extensive menu, offering a great selection of fresh, home cooked Italian and SE Asian dishes.
I do hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the not too distant future.

I was introduced to this small boutique hotel by a friend in Bangkok , so I went to stay there for a week at the beginning of February 2013 Very beautifully placed in a most attractive and well located area of Saigon , it is not far from the lovely Opera House and the nearby wide, tree-lined French boulevards .
The staff are very friendly welcoming and happy to help ( in fact one the of the reception staff took me to a shop to get something quickly around the corner , Rather than explain it ! Not a regualr occurrence I would say ! )
The breakfast is on the roof top floor , covered by a canopy which protects from the sun in the mornings .I had an good choice of breakfast offered to me , whilst sitting overlooking the river life , one could catch a glimpse of the river , between two buildings , as the hotel is a street away from the river Friendliness ,helpfulness ,cleanliness and good value are what I look for in a place to stay when away from home This is what the hotel offers , I am planning my next visit next year when I go back to Asia
The owners work hard to ensure their newly renovated hotel is working well for their guests and I feel they will succeed in making anyones stay thoroughly enjoyable It was certainly for ME !
Don't expect too much and you will get more !

Sam Morse

Room Tip: If you like hustle and bustle in the morning you can enjoy a front room Street life is good there...

To be frank the redevelopment of our hotel was close to a nightmare, as we battled with third world building standards and tried to hang onto our dream.
The ultimate reward is when you have truly delightful, well travelled and joyous guests come to stay. They arrive as guests and quickly become friends, as they embrace all we have to offer, along with celebrating the new culture they have come to experience.
How could I resist taking off my hotel owner's hat, to become tour guide for a day or two, in your company?
Sai Gon is indeed a seductive city, especially dressed to kill in all it's Tet, decorative finery. Thank you for coming to stay, looking forward to welcoming you back and happy that you love Vietnam.
