“All around satisfying hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

We traveled on a medium budget and looked for an inexpensive but clean, central, and comfortable place, and the Spring Hotel fit the bill nicely.

We stayed two nights at the Spring Hotel and found it to be a good value, location, with super helpful staff. They helped us book train tickets, called cabs for us, and advised us on how to best get to our next location.

The lobby is beautiful and rooms are simple, small, and clean. Breakfast was filling and it's just a few blocks from the market.

We were disappointed in the Spring Hotel. Our room was very small for two people, we had to take a chair out to create room for our luggage! On our last night we moved to a suite which was much more roomy.
The most disconcerting thing about being on the eight floor was that the fire escape was locked off and housekeeping supplies stored on the landing....pretty scary proposition with a very slow moving elevator and a narrow winding staircase the only way down.
The breakfast were decidedly pedestrian...little variety and poorly cooked, oil soaked eggs.
The staff were cordial and helpful....but could not in our opinion make up for the tired facility.
It was a surprise to see the Tripadvisor award of excellence displayed in the lobby!
The central location is a plus, but the room rates are no bargain.

Positives: good value, location, staff, breakfast selection including fresh fruit, nearby restaurants.
Negatives: rooms a little tired, smokers in lobby, street noise.
My rating may have suffered a little on account of comparison with with Hanoi Elegance Sapphire and Hue Orchid, both of which offer much nicer rooms for a similar price.

For the price and location you can't go past the Spring Hotel. We booked here based recommendations and we didn't look back.

It's location in HCM is perfect - it means you can get around simply by walking everywhere. Close to major shopping centres, loads of good restaurants and bars and all the main attractions.

Rooms are a bit shabby - marks on the walls and obviously haven't been updated in a while but they are clean and liveable. The safes in the rooms could do with replacing - they are accesible by key rather than code! Water pressure in shower was great and water was nice and hot.

Drinking water in the minibar is cheap and the laundry service was excellent. Breakfast is average but again - like everything about this hotel - good for the price. I found the currency exchange at the front desk very helpful and at good rates for USD. Staff are no-nonsense and know what they are doing, super efficient and don't get things wrong. It's a well-oiled machine.

Ask for a non-smoking room - I found a bit of a smoking stench lurking in ours.

Room Tip: Ask for a non-smoking room and perhaps avoid the first floor facing the street for noise.

Stayed there for 4-5 nights. Felt like staying at a 4 star hotel!

Positives:
Good choice for breakfast
Great wi-fi, could stream
Central location, could walk to most places
Very nice room/hotel
Had safe in the room
Nice hot water and bath tub
Very helpful staff

Negatives:
Poor vegeterian choices for dinner but staff was very flexible and made us an omelette and stir fries
Location is in the posh area of Saigon, cheap restaurants are about 20-30 min walk away

We had previously stayed at the Spring Hotel and found it to be excellent. It is very well located, close to the CBD and restaurants and has lovely clean rooms. The staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. The hotel also has a lovely breakfast which is included in the price of the room.

On our last stay however, we stayed on the eighth floor where the fire exit has become the House Attendant's storeroom and is padlocked.
We pointed this out to the Duty Manager who advised that if there was a fire we could use the fire escape on the floor below. When it was brought to her attention that heat and smoke both rise making the eighth floor a potential death trap no action was taken over the next three days we stayed and we couldn't wait to get out of there.

We can only hope that after this review is published that the hotel management will take some action and move the storeroom to an alternative location. Othe hotels we stayed in used one of their rooms for this.

Room Tip: Check to see that the floor you stay on has a fire escape!

I stayed at this hotel 3 times, each for a couple days last winter and still have the fondest of memories! It felt so lovely and grandiose to have such tall ceilings, a big chandelier, a tall winding stairwell with wood railing, and general antique moldings etc. The staff treat you like royalty, coming to meet you at the street, getting all your bags etc and holding the double doors wide open for you. Very attentive, very kind, accommodating my every need. They even let me store a bag and then a box of stuff for the length of my trip, as I didn't want to haul my winter clothes around for my traveling vacation, and then I also began to accrue purchases to take home. I hold this place dear in my heart. Another writer said the service has slipped- I so hope not as it was a definite perk of the luxury that I felt staying at this gorgeous hotel.

Room Tip: I would book the cheapest room as the greatest benefit is just being at this hotel. The windows do...
