“cold war style, hot location opposite Sheraton.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

Very communist retro decor, ineffective air-con. Staff and location great but idiosyncratic styling a slice of 50 years ago. worth going to see this alone. If they fixed the aircon, it is a cult hotel as is. Amazing living evidence of communist attempt to jump into the 60's/70's. Really, I do not want it upgraded, just fix the air and carpets. Real olympic style hall lights from 1976? or so.It would be sad to lose this Cultural revolution icon. Fabulous location.Do not renovate,it is a classic.Electrics unfathomable,10 bedroom lights, opening windows. GO stay here.

The rooms are large, it is well located, and breakfast in the gardens was lovely. Aside from that the air conditioning leaked all over the floor and was not fixed. The bathroom was moldy and leaky. The hallways were not clean, and the rooms smelled musty all the time from the leaking air conditioning. Pick somewhere else!!!!! I would not go back.

Centrally located on a sideway to one of the main streets in the city center. Furniture are old-fashioned, but rooms are spacious and clean. Receptionists speak good English. Buffet breakfast is very good, while dinner is not worthwhile. Laundry service is quick and good.

Stayed here for 10 nights. The hotel is very dated and a throw back to the 70's. It is a Government hotel. The deluxe room I had was really large with a separate living area and the room was clean. The front doors on the rooms are not very secure and could be easily breached. I had no security problems though and there is a safe in the room.

Breakfast was adequate on the 9th floor with nice views across the river. There is also a Karaoke Bar on the 10th floor which can be noisy and easily heard in some of the hotel rooms. There is no pool. A really nice bar and restaurant adjoins the hotel called the Zan Z Bar and there is a 24 hour convenience store right next door. The location is right opposite the Sheraton and is A+.

The price for this hotel needs to be around $40 for it to represent any value, otherwise there are better options elsewhere with more comfortable rooms.

Would I stay here again? Probably not. I'd either pay a bit more for something better or look for another option within the same price range.

During my last 2 visits I had stayed at the Riverside Renaissance a couple of streets away, but this time wanted to try something cheaper and value for money. Hence I tried this one which was around ½ price as that of the former. The rent was USD 83.

Advantages,
1. Good location on Dong Du street in District 1 and closer to the happening places and restaurants in HCMC.
2. Value for money including breakfast and WiFi
3. Friendly staff
4. Though not applicable to me, might be a good place for Muslim travelers to stay as it is right across a big Mosque and surrounded by Halal restaurants.

Disadvantages:
1. Noise from a club from a parallel street was a nuisance at night even though I was staying on the 8th floor.
2. The call from the Mosque for prayers were a bit of a disturbance as well.

Overall, a value for money hotel at a good location with decent services.

A modest hotel, very convenient especially for muslim travellers since there are a few Halal restaurants just a few steps away (Dnyonya, Bombay, Halal@Saigon, just to name a few). Located opposite the Sheraton so taking a cab wouldn't be a problem as most of the taxi drivers there know the directions to sheraton. About 1 km from the famous Cho Ben Than and taxi rate would be around 1USD per trip. Not sure about other companies but Vinasun seems to be reliable because they use the rate meter. Walking distance to most of the city attractions; the mall, the theatre, etc. Rooms are spacious and clean, the downside is the lighting. Breakfast buffet, a bit boring. Same menu every day but then again, it's a 3 star hotel so good enough i guess. Yup, i'll come back.

From the hotel, we could walk to central of city and almost of attractions like Ben Thanh Market, Freedom Palace...I really like the food in the restaurants nearby.
The hotel room was small but lovely, clean and modern architecture like the new renovation. The staff was friendly and helpful and always smile when they meet the guest. Many thanks. I'll come back.
