“Friendly and Welcoming Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

Apart from getting a room that had 2 single beds for 2 of the 4 nights we stayed there, my husband and I really liked Duxton Hotel. Such friendly Staff, always willing to help and always went out of their way to look after us. We found all the Vietnamese people working in the Hospitality industry very accommodating and polite. The room was very clean, comfortable and cool for the hot Vietnamese weather. We took advantage of the huge bathtub, Room service, gym and swimming pool. We only got wifi in the entrance of the hotel but we paid the extra $8 a day for fast connecting internet in our room as we had a laptop.
We would recommend the Duxton hotel.

Don't know what these Aussies are talking about. Good city hotel, great central location, good, clean rooms. Fantastic breakfast buffet. Really friendly, helpful staff throughout the hotel. Wouldn't expect to find balconies and pools in city locations as hotels are for short stay stop-overs and business trips, but this one has a small but perfectly adequate pool and gym, and also a spa - what more could you want!

I often travel to Ho Chi Minh City for business and occasionally for leisure, but this was the first time I have stayed at the Duxton Hotel. It won’t be the last. The Duxton is a medium sized hotel located in a very convenient area: it is close to the riverside and also close to Ben Thanh Market and bustling Dong Khoi Street.

The hotel is clean and bright an offers larger than usual room. I was lucky to be put in a corner room which was even larger than most. The beds are comfortable, although a king sized bed is actually two singles joined together. This is fine until you start to roll around. Bathrooms are equipped with an enormous bath tub (well, enormous for hotel standards) and a high pressure shower. Rooms also come with free high speed internet, wired and wireless.

There is a gym which is small but adequate. Fortunately not many people seem to use it, so I always got the machine I wanted. The swimming pool area is small but pleasant.

Breakfast is standard hotel fare, but I think the general quality if better than comparable hotels.
I was running a seminar at the hotel, so I had the opportunity to eat at the lunch buffet for 6 days. The food is excellent, truly excellent. It offers a selection of local, Chinese and western favorites. Chef really knows what he is doing. Food is presented in small containers and is refreshed very often.

The staff are extremely courteous, friendly and professional. Rooms are left sparkling and are refreshed in the late afternoon. Room service is delivered promptly, and questions are answered and issues addressed well at reception.

The Duxton is highly recommended. I’ll be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room - they are larger!

Staying one night in the Duxton on our final night in Vietnam we were looking forward to staying in a nice hotel. The entrance is quite impressive so you get a good first impression but that was taken away when we were greeted by the reception staff who were very rude and not welcoming. We had three rooms and only two were ready even though it was after 5pm. The bell boy was lovely and when he showed us to our room, he went through were we could find everything. The room was very basic but ok. We opened the curtain to find that our view was of a grey concrete wall - it was night so we didn't really care.

We were checking out at 6am and had asked for our breakfast to be prepared in take away boxes for us. It was ready when we checked out and was quite nice.

I wouldn't recommend paying extra to stay at the Duxton as I am sure you can get better value for money elsewhere.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour of Vietnam. On arrival we were pleased with what we saw, regrettably our first impression changed. The room was adequate but the smell of damp was very unpleasant. We were on a tour with four other people and their rooms also had an unpleasant
Odour. One couple asked for a move because of dirty bed linen but were still unhappy. We eventually all asked to move to another hotel but were offered a superior room instead. The only difference was that this had a leather chair but the smell remained and we refused. We were then asked to consider suites. The only advantage for us was that there was no smell so accepted.
Admittedly the hotel did respond to our complaints.
This hotel has a problem as the damp mildew smell is evident along the corridors. Not what you expect from this type of hotel. The breakfast was good but staff not very friendly generally

Room Tip: Don't put up with the smell there are rooms which will make your stay more pleasant

Location on main road but can't hear any traffic in rooms. Clean and great service. Mini bar is way overpriced. $5 aud for chocolate bar and about $7 for beer. Cost less than $2 for beer at a good restaurant. Room service also way overpriced considering prices elsewhere with Similar prices to what an Australian hotel will charge.

This is a fine motel if your on business and aren't looking for too much in the way of comfort or service. The rooms are small and there are no balconies. There appeared to minimal staff so service was not very flash. There is also little in the way of amenities. There a small pool outside, a small spa and the restaurant. There is no concierge to help you and tour desk or anything of the like.
All in all it is not the worst hotel but for the price and star rating I expected more.

Room Tip: Do not get a smoking room even if you are a smoker!!!
