We decided to stay at the New World Hotel at the end of our trip in HCM as we had been staying in some fairly average hotels. The service was great when we arrived. The pool and location is probably what hooked us and we spent the majority of the time lazing around drinking beers pool-side. The location of the hotel is probably the best in HCM. They were always happy to assist us with any directions we needed.

The rooms were comfortable and not too small. The bed was HUGE and very comfortable.

I didnt like the fact that you had to pay extra to use the internet services, as most of the lower class hotels we stayed at provided internet access for free.

Lovely shops inside the hotel, and great entertainment, although we only sat down for about 20mins to girls singing classic songs from the 90's as the clubs in HCM were much more appealing.

Definitely recommend it but also have a shop around.

New World is a fine place in Saigon, really nice. The rooms are good, the staff is very nice and attentive, the breakfast is wonderful, and the location is great -- right between the big Ben Thanh (sp?) market and the backpackers' ghetto (which is fun to wander around.) The high life of Le Loi is just a 10 minute walk, or a 5 minute cab ride.

The new world is a 4 star. The rooms are very clean but dated. Maybe it was because the corporation that booked our Executive room, or because of the Tet Holiday, but we had the best service I have ever received at a hotel. It seemed every time we turned around, there was this lady asking us by name if we needed anything. Executive rooms receive free happy hour drinks and appetizers. Executive rooms receive free use of the business center. So when I went to change air reservations at 7:30a and found the center did not open until 8, that same lady showed up like magic, opened and powered up the center for me.

In the 3 days we were there, I got a massage twice. Well worth the $35. I even received some "lucky money" and fruit for Chinese New Year from the housekeeping staff!

We booked the Cu Chi and Mekong Delta trips through the hotel (Buffalo Tours) and had a great time. When a hotel voucher , that was not mine, showed up under my door one morning, and we were off to the Mekong for the day, I simply turned it over to the front desk and it was taken care of.

Thanks to Mi (Spa), Nen (Lounge), Housekeeping, and the mystery lady for a very nice stay.

I recommend this hotel only If you are paying less than $150 USD a night and receiving complimentary breakfast. If you are not getting these rates, go stay at the Rex Hotel or another hotel in this class.

I stayed at the New World for $200 and was not as pleased as I should have been. Despite being a very high class hotel in Saigon, the property did not live up to my expectations. Internet access was via ethernet cable when it should have been WiFi and costs $6/hour or $24/day. The pool was closed for maintenance and the staff did not impress me. If I had not corrected the front desk at checkout, I would have paid twice the rate. I asked the staff to hold my luggage because my flight left late in the evening and they would not allow it. I mean there are simple requests that patrons should not have to worry about asking. Service simply was not there, especially from a property that you'd expect it to be from.

Although I was not pleased as I should have been, the hotel does have some qualities I have to comment on. The breakfast was not bad. It was served in at the Dynasty restaurant in the lobby at $20 USD a person. Full amenities are also provided, where on the second floor you can receive massages, facials, and body scrubs. I was not exceptionally pleased with their massages as well. For $6 USD, you can exercise in their gym.

Simply put, although known as a full-service hotel, the only thing the New World Hotel has going for it is the fact that a U.S. president stayed here. As an American taxpayer, I would be mad to learn that he paid more than $150 USD/night. I recommend this hotel only at the rate described above. If you are paying more, stay at another hotel.
