“Worth the Splurge!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2010

We booked the Majestic for the last 2 nights of our 40-day visit to Vietnam. I wanted one 5-star experience after several backpacker-level nights. The Majestic was perfect -- even though it was a splurge for us, there were great summer rates available on the internet. The location right on the river was super -- I think much better than the locations of the Caravelle, Rex or other 5-star options. The lobby was splendid with chandeliers and opulence -- again much more pleasant for me than the modern glass and chrome lobby of the Caravelle. The staff greeted us warmly and helped us arrange tours and airport transfers. We had a colonial room with a pool view, which was quite nice with all the right touches. The marble bathroom was awesome and I was particularly happy to see a bathroom scale was included! The turn down service each night included 2 pieces of chocolate!! A real luxury -- since chocolate seems to be pretty rare in Vietnam. The breakfast buffet was bountiful - great made to order eggs, french pastries, lots of fruit. We enjoyed drinks at the roof top bar overlooking the river. The location was great for taking a dinner cruise and for walking to all of the sights in District 1. The perfect end for our trip!

This hotel really is a mixed bag! I loved the traditional look and the room we had which looked out over the water was lovely. I know it was not as modern as people like but I enjoyed the feeling of being in an old style hotel. As it was my husband's birthday and I had mentioned this, the staff left a birthday cake in our room for us- very very sweet! It was such a nice touch and a lovely surprise!
We drank in the rooftop bar- the drinks were disappointing but the staff nice and we enjoyed the view. The downstairs bar was nicer and we enjoyed a few nightcaps there. The pool was lovely, except for some loud children but when they were gone, it was lovely sitting in the sun by the pool.
A really nice feature was the tours that the hotel offered. A local man and his driver came to pick us up and took us on a tour around the Mekong Delta and local villages. Plus we went to the Cu Chi Tunnels the next day with the same guides. It is worth noting that these tours are more expensive but we do recommend them as other cheaper tours involve a mini bus with other people, whereas this trip was in a comfortable car with just the guide.
So the downside?! As it was a special occasion, we decide to do something out of the ordinary and we booked a couple's massage. Very reasonably priced. We were really looking forward to it. But our relaxing experience left us feeling sour. Both the massage therapists (we were in the same room) giggled and laughed and snorted throughout. At one point, when I removed my eye mask, the therapist was standing above me pushing out her tummy and cheeks (imitating a "fat person") while her colleague was doubled up in silent laughter. The moment she realised that I was looking, she grabbed my eye mask and pulled it over my eyes. Try relaxing after that!
Basically we thought the whole thing to be comical but the therapists put a serious dampener on our otherwise great stay! But the other staff tried their best with us so it shouldn't put anyone off the hotel!

We have just stayed at the majestic and were advised to ask for a colonial room on booking. When we arrived we then decided to also upgrade to a pool view room. It was a lovely room, quite spacious on the second floor overlooking the pool courtyard. Fresh bowl of fruit every day and lots of other lovely touches. We loved having cocktails on the rooftop bar every evening. Breakfast was included in the reastaurant downstairs and was everything you would expect of a good hotel. The service was very friendly and I will definately stay there if I revisit HCMC.

Once you get over all the over the top bling - this is an ok place to stay. Great food we ate at 2 of the restaurants and the food was great. Big breakfast with all you could ever ask for. Beds are on the hard side. Staff very friendly and willing to help whenever they can. The tour desk was hopeless and would not recomend using, all they want is your money . The business centre were great. We were not certain if we should stay in D1 or D5. If you are looking to go shopping and nice restuarants I would receomend staying in D1. However it was easy to get a taxi to D1 and was very cheap. Shopping centre downstair was also ok.

This is a fabulous Hotel in a great location in Saigon. Very glamorous and historic. We had a wonderful suite with river and road views but found the glazing made it very quiet. The breakfast on the roof was fantastic. The pool was cool and shady, bed was wonderful, the bathroom magnificent and the lounge luxurious and all very spacious. We will definitely stay here again.

Great experience staying in the heart of Saigon !
We stayed in a 2 room Suite with 1 child who loved the luxury of having his own TV !!!:))
Check in was smooth...... welcome drink and assisted form filling ! I just had to sign !
The rooftop restaurant, where we had a fabulous breakfast spread had great views.
We used the same location for the Happy Hour drinks that came with our deal in the evening.
I guess when you pay top price you expect all these luxuries !
On the outside ..... Taxis are easily available and everyone knows the hotel. Beware of rogue Taxi operators .... specially outside Ben Thanh Market. You will have to pay 20 times the actual fare...... and they lock you in. Use Vinasun or Mailinh Taxis.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in May and we had a very memorable stay. The hotel was beautiful, real old world charm. We found the service excellent and our room was quiet and beautiful. It was recommended to us to stay in the older section and only in a room looking over the river, we were not disappointed. We loved Saigon, and enjoyed everything about it. The hotel have the best perfumed flowers throughout the hotel and in your room, it really sets the ambience!! Thankyou to all the staff and the hotel for a great stay, we will visit again for sure!
