We chose the Majestic based on reviews on Trip Advisor and stayed there for one night at the end of our trip. We were looking to spoil ourselves with some five star luxury. The Majestic fitted this bill in many ways - lush decorations and generally impressive building but I wouldn't say the service was overly impressive. Many of the smaller B&Bs made more of an effort to ensure a good stay.
For example, I made our booking through WOTIF and only realised later they were offering a better deal if you booked through their website. I ended up paying a higher room rate and missed out on a free airport transfer. I asked the hotel and they refused to offer a free transfer as offered on their website. We ended up paying $22 USD for a van (even though there were only 2 of us) when a B&B would have charged $12 USD.
The next blow came when we went into our room - which is nicely furnished with slightly dated furniture (think decor that would appeal to a middle-aged buisness man). We had paid a higher rate for a 'city delux' room which should have provided us with a view of HCM. Instead we had a view of an empty office building. After checking with hotel staff we were assured that we were provided with a city delux room. Definitely wasn't worth the extra money.
One of the more positive things was the wide selection of food at the breakfast buffet (which was included in my room rate). However dinner was quite pricey as it came to $30 USD for a spring roll entree and 2 mains (fried rice and noodles).
General impression? A pricey and slightly dated hotel with some grand features. You might as well splash out a bit more and stay at the Sheraton.
