“Wonderful old hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

A group of 5 couples stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in early April. This was the first hotel we stayed at when we arrived in Vietnam. It was a great start - the hotel is a gem. From the wow factor of the old world reception area to the size of the rooms, the hotel didn't fail to impress. We were very surprised at the size of the bathrooms in the deluxe rooms - huge!
The buffet breakfast was excellent and the location of the restaurant on the 5th floor made for interesting viewing of the river activities.
A cheap laundry service is available at the end of the block, and its worth a visit to the Bitexco Financial Tower - there is a small bar on the 50th floor (hugely expensive drinks, but worth the visit for the view)

Room Tip: Reviews are gold. Use them, and the more looked at the better. We stayed at 4 hotels during our trip...

We got a big-big room high up in the house. Really a humangeous room with a writing desk, comfortable bed and a couple of chairs and a plant outside that was nice to look at while sitting and drinking tea. Nice sleeping comfort, even pillow ok, not too hard or soft. Silent room. Bathroom also nice and the marble on the walls and floor looked very expensive. Combination wood (mahogony?) and marble gave a cosy feeling to the room. We had absolutely nothing to complain about when it comes to the hotel room during our one night stay. Breakfast was good and we enjoyed. Didn't have much time to go out but we found some shops close to the hotel and could do some shopping. Massage and foot treatment gave us a big suprise thou - you didn't give tip to the provider of the service - it was invoiced separately after you had to put the sum on the note written on the room and it felt like you MUST to write a sum on the bill... That didn't feel well. Prefer to give tip in cash directly (if job well done) and not get an invoice to pay when checking out.

Stayed at The Majestic Hotel for 2 nights. The hotel is in a perfect location right across from the river with high-end shopping and restaurants available close by. Although the room was lovely, the bathroom was quite small for being of this caliber of hotel, but it was still fine. The included buffet breakfast is nice (not great) with lovely views of the river. The restaurant is not air conditioned and quite hot so try to find a shady spot since half of it is open-air. However, we did have dinner at the same restaurant and our desserts were frozen and once thawed dry. At $6.00 each it was disappointing. Found the staff not particularly friendly in the restaurant or front desk. There are plans to change the exterior of the hotel in 2015, which is to bad - it's such a lovely, elegant hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back of the hotel. It's on a very busy road and quite noisy.

If you like modern, sleek and aloof hotels then look elsewhere. This hotel oozes charm and sophistication from a bygone era and is an experience in itself. It is centrally located however some may not like that fact it fronts the main road running adjacent to the river but I just think this adds to it's link with old Saigon

we booked this hotel for the charm of the building, the river view and the location.it delivered on all three. breakfast on the roof was nice but tables a bit close together and crowded at peak times. food was a mixed bag lots of choice but some items , pate, cheese and cooked meats not looking too good. the rooftop bar is lovely in the evening and happy hour deals can take the edge off the prices, people go camera mad up here, flashlights going off whilst others are setting up tripods does cramp the style a little of an otherwise very nice bar. lovely big river view room with very stylish bathroom let down by shower over bath and shower curtain in a bathroom big enough to have a separate large walk in shower. the river view is good and despite being next to a busy road the air con noise masked any traffic sounds. the courtyard pool is quite small with little space around it but enough to cool down after a days sightseeing. service was generally ok , but not exceptional. I enjoyed the location despite warnings of moped bag snatchers the area generally has a very up market feel and the only time i felt a little insecure was in a Saigon tourist taxi, stick to mai linh building work is imminent next door for the hotel expansion so check with the hotel for possible disruption, hope this does not spoil any of the charm of this lovely example of colonial extravagance.

Perhaps it was because we had just finished a 2 week adventure trip from Hanoi and this hotel was our treat at the end to unwind before heading home - but our stay was perfect (as was the adventure holiday !). From the moment we entered the magnificent lobby we knew this was going to be great. The staff were attentive, the location perfect (get a room overlooking the river - double glazing means their is no noise), and the style and grace of the hotel were beyond compare. Sampled the rooftop bar and magnificent seafood BBQ (think prawns, crayfish, steak, as much as you desire all cooked to perfection. The room was spotless and the attention to detail (e.g. fruit, flowers) made us feel very welcome.

Room Tip: Select a room overlooking the river

The Majesticis a beautiful old building in a good location with nice comfortable rooms and a good breakfast. Our room was large with a little balcony overlooking the busy street and river. I loved standing out there and watching Saigon road and river traffic go by. We only stayed 3 nights in January on the way down the Mekong and booked a different hotel on our return for a night (the Caravelle). We preferred the character and charm of the Majestic and would happily stay there again.

Room Tip: get a room with the balcony overlooking the road.
