“Grand Indeed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Three days at the Grand Hotel, Saigon. I preferred it to one of the big new hotels that have sprouted up in HCM City. The Grand is an old French colonial hotel, updated and enlarged. The rooms in the old section are furnished in colonial style, with mahogany floors, etc. We (4 friends) opted for one of the grand suites -- two bedrooms, two baths, lounge area. Ours was on the pool level and also had a table and chairs just outside, so we spent some time there instead of inside. A very nice pool, good drinks, breakfast buffet was good. Only negative -- a plug blew out when one of our party plugged in her iPhone.

Room Tip: Rooms in the old section are much more "atmospheric."

At one time, I'm sure the Grand Hotel in Saigon lived up to it's name. Now, the only thing grand about this hotel is the central location in District one. The rooms are fine, but don't expect to be wowed by the stylish lobby, or posh rooms. I suppose it's unfair to compare a hotel in an emerging socialist republic, with New York or Bangkok, so I won't. The place could use a face lift but it's not bad, it's just very utilitarian. The new Sofitel, and the Nikko seem to offer a better vibe, but at a steeper price as well. It's also a little annoying that they stop serving breakfast at 9:30 am. I don't like to get up that early. All that said, the staff seems kind and it's clean and just off the river. Not the best, but certainly not the worst.

End of a a long and fascinating trip in Cambodia and Vietnam. Decided to blow some money on what pro-ports itself to be one of the best hotels hotels in HCMC. Very very disappointing. Breakfast full always and huge queues. Pool too small for number of guests. Great location. Had a suite but there is not enough hot water... Bath fills to less than 2 inches. And god help you if both rooms want a bath or shower. Air conditioning works in one room and not another.
Great city... Superb food and trip thanks to our guide Bee...

If you want a balcony put it in a request when you book. This hotel is central to everything either walking distance or a $2 dollar cab ride to where you want to go. Wifi didn't work in the room but did work at the lobby, pool, and roof top restaurant /bar. 1 block to the river walking distance to the markets though a cab ride back is nice. They could have a few more sun lounges around the pool need to get in early..

My wife and I stayed 3 nights in this hotel in late November. We had stayed there once before about 5 years ago prior to its expansion. It is very well located near to many places of interest in the city.
We specified a room in the new tower and were not disappointed. It was spacious and pleasantly furnished . The dining room is a beautiful example of colonial design and the breakfast was very good.
We would quite happily stay there again on our next visit to Saigon.

Fantastic loved it! The hotel staff was wonderful and as helpful as they can be with a language barrier. The rooms were lovely, great bed, good pillows, amazing showers and even good tv. Breakfast was very good, the coffee tastes a little strange but easily fixed by ordering a latte. The location is amazing just down the street from the river, great restaurants and adorable shops. I came home rested and looking fondly to our next trip back to HCMC. We will absolutely stay @ the Grand again.

This hotel is definitely worth your consideration while in HCM city. It is centrally located and has the charm of 60 years ago with a French Indochina feel. This makes it an attractive alternative to the larger US/European chain facilities in the city. The room was good size and the bed a welcome relief after 24 hours in the air. In the noise and bustle that is HCM city, the hotel was quiet and recently renovated. The Internet was included and fine for email and web surfing. We did not use it for any streaming. The hotel staff is helpful and pleasant. We did not spend a lot of time at the hotel but rather used it for sleep, our days completely full with seeing the country.
