An Average Hotel
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Mar 22, 2015
Hotel is average with good service. Breakfast on the top floor has a very nice view of the city. Room was okay, except air conditioning is difficult to control. Bed was comfortable. Hotel is average with an excellent location. Many restaurants and sites are within walking distance.

Good spread for the breakfast and located about a five-ten minute walk away from bien then market. Unfortunately there is some significant construction out the front while the new metro is build (no fault of the hotels but certainly impacts some of the views and the entrance). Staff were attentive and spoke english reasonably well

This is a very nice hotel with a bit of class , right in the heart of Ho CHI MINH city near the opera house . Breakfast is fantastic and a 5-10 minute walk to Ben Tran markets and also Saigon Square another great clothing wholesale area with top labels . Over the road is a great little Japanese restaurant as well. At the endof the street is the ferry terminal for a stay or outing to Vung Tau. I was back iin Feb 2015 and major road works right at the front door .

I stay in Ho Chi Minh at least once a month. Sometimes I do nice posh places and sometimes I do cheap places. I think Oscar falls into the middle, but for a fairly cheap price. It does seem a bit dated, but the room size was decent and the bathroom was nice. It was clean. Although there is the construction going on now, it is still in a great location.
The buffet breakfast was quite good. There's an egg station, bread, fruit, salad choices, along with Asian breakfast options. I would definitely stay here again.

Room tip: I didn't find the construction to be a problem, but if you are worried about the noise then ask for a room in the back.

We had booked a room without a window which we didn't realise until we received the booking confirmation but as we were only staying one night, it didn't matter. However when we arrived the reception staff upgraded us for free to a city view room, which was lovely. There was work going on outside so although the view wasn't amazing it was better than no view at all! The room was huge, clean, with tv, mini bar, safe, slippers, gowns, & toiletries. The wifi connection in the room wasn't great which was a bit frustrating, & we couldn't seem to get the hot water to work. We probably could have complained, but for one night we couldn't be bothered. The price includes breakfast, which is on a higher floor so has a bit of a view. Breakfast was buffet style with wide choice of food, which was fairly tasty. The hotel does have a restaurant also, but we didn't try this as we ate out. The staff were really friendly, carrying our heavy backpacks to & from our rooms & also half way down the street when our taxi arrived! The staff also booked our taxi to the airport. The decor is a little dated & this place was probably very grand in its time so could do with a little updating, but as we were there to see the city & not stay in the hotel, this didn't bother us. Overall a nice place, great location for seeing the sights as it's within walking distance of the river, some famous city sights & the hellipad Sky bar.

Room tip: Ask for room with a window

I stayed at the hotel from 26 to 30 Dec 2014.This is not my first time as I have stayed a few times at this hotel. In general ,it offers value for money as it is centrally located, nice clean well furnished rooms & provide a free buffet breakfast.
However for my latest stay, there were some hiccups.
First before I arrived,I asked for 2 rooms, one with a twin bed & one with a double bed.I received an email confirmation that they will provide the 2 rooms as requested. However upon check in, I was offered 2 rooms with double bed. The message was not relayed to the front desk, despite an email confirmation.
Hiccup 2: On my last day of departure, I asked to extend my checkup to 6 pm & I TOLD THE RECEPTIONIST I WILL PAY FOR THE EXTRA HOURS. I DID NOT ASKED FOR A FREE EXTENSION. But the receptionist just said "Sorry, the hotel is full ". even I am willing to pay for the room. I then told him to tell the truth t as I will then go to the AGODA website & book a room myself. Immediately he agreed to let me stay till 6 pm at USD 30 !
Hiccup 3: The main road at the entrance to the hotel is now under construction. So the taxi cannot drop you in front of the hotel .They will drop you at a side road & you have to carry yr luggage to the hotel via a small path. The problem is the small path in front of the hotel is a filled with stones & sand & not a proper path. It is like a road under construction . I was afraid of nails ,etc. However on our last day, they have concreted the path .
Hiccup 4: They used to have dailynewspapers & magazines at the lobby. Now there is none.
Hiccup 5: I stayed at the 10 th Floor. On the 11 th floor is the restaurant. I dont know why. Even at 1 am in the morning, there are knocking sounds from the 11 th floor.

Room tip: Dont choose the rooms facing the road as it is under construction. So noisy. Also dont choose the 10 th floor rooms as on the 11 th floor is the restaurant . They will shift the furniture at night creating a lot of noise, even at 1 am in the morning.
