“History but please, don't include the vermin!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

We chose this hotel because of the history. High ceilings, old wooden furniture - this place had an atmosphere of decayed grandeur which really appealed - until we realized rats were included in the package and running around in the dining room as we ate our dinner. "Sorry about the mouse, it's because this hotel is old!" said the waitress, but they weren't mice, they were solid-looking rats, and that may have explained why most of the people who stay in this hotel seem to opt to dine elsewhere in the evening. Apart from that, the hotel was fine, but I strongly recommend to the hotel management that they get a vermin extermination program going quickly, because at the prices they charge, rats are simply not acceptable!

Room Tip: Ask for a garden room; it's quieter

Have stayed here twice in the last few years and the hotel is spacious, cool and welcoming. Breakfast in the courtyard is wonderful and was one of the best we experienced in Vietnam. We were upgraded to suites with great views over to the Opera House. The rooms are huge and while the hotel may be old the fittings and beautiful woodwork create a lovely atmosphere. Staff are reserved but very helpful with suggestions for dinner and directions. The hotel is central to everything and provides a cool oasis during the very humid days.

Room Tip: Pick a room looking over towards the Opera House - they are large and surprisingly not noisy from t...

A historic property to stay in Saigon, we just loved it, takes you back in time...
we were in a group of 5, we had 3 suites, all facing the opera house, very conveniently
located in the heart of magical Saigon. The best shopping areas, malls, restaurants
night market alll at a walking distance. The bathrooms were huge clean and upgraded
to modern standards. All in all our best stay in Vietnam.

Room Tip: Facing the opera house.

This hotel was built in the late 1800 and they have kept this design going with modern rooms to todays standards. The wood work of the doors and furniture is very pleasing to the eye and heavy to the touch (mahogany). There are even some carved ceilings and the decor is to match. Located in mid town and walking distance to shops hotels and makets.

Room Tip: We had inside room very quiet. Outside room some had balcony facing the street looked very interesti...

My husband and I simply loved the Hotel Continental Saigon. This is an historic hotel in the heart of the most posh part of Ho Chi Minh City -- central to the best sites and the best shopping in the city. Our room was so lovely, and it had a balcony that looked out on to the Opera...we spent a lot of time on the balcony. The bathroom was great with a tub that was small in stature, but so well designed that I used it 3 separate times for long soaks. We stayed here at the end of a 3-week trip, and it was our favorite hotel...also the best breakfast. Not only was the breakfast selection great, but you have your choice to sit inside or outside in the courtyard. I can understand why this hotel wouldn't work for everyone: if you need to have a pool, it won't work for you. But, if you love staying in historic hotels, this is a not-to-be-missed property. My only disappointment was that the hotel didn't have any information on its history -- we would have purchased a book on the hotel had one been available.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony! Also, they are refurbishing the rooms, but we actually liked the "o...
