“This is basically a 4-star hotel unless you pay extra when checking in”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

Stayed here for 2 nights in August with my brother-in-law. The location was quite good towards the centre of town. The rooms were clean and modern but not of a 5 star standard.

When you check in you are given a hard sale to pay lots more money for a room and service on their club floor. We decided not to do so. Basically, I get the feeling that if you pay for that upgrade you get the real 5 star service, otherwise it is 4 star. There is no free wi fi available which is very poor considering the vast majority of hotels in the country provide this, from 3 star to 5 star establishments.

I would not stay here if visiting Ho Chi Minh again and would rather stay at a real 5 star.

As others have stated the Equatorial is in an area where there is little to see in immediate vicinity. The shuttle takes you into town and it's probably a good idea to do the complete shuttle run first to get your bearings. A taxi from the market in the centre of town cost us 50,000 dong (around $3 AUD). The best taxi's are Mailin and Vena Sun and also Saigon Tourist, we used all three without any issue.
The breakfast was sensatioal with a good balance betwwen asian and western cuisines, upgrading to Club was a good move as the breakfast was more quiet and it had most of what was on offer in the main restaurant. From 5,20 pm Club also served snacks and endless wine and beer. For me it was enough to not worry about dinner as there was plenty of variety and of good quality. For $60 USD a night it was worth the expense. The room was nice and spacious with a choice of pillows if required, the bed was comfortable and huge and the bathroom had everything you would expect of a 5 star hotel. Club also entitled you to 2 items of laundry per day and valet pickup and drop off at the airport. Definately worth it !

Room Tip: Take the Club floor upgrade option

Stayed at the Hotel Equatorial for 2 nights as a part of the Deals.com package. On arrival (handled very professionally) we were offered an upgrade which was well worth the price & included club level rooms, all day snacks, drinks, laundry and other such add ons. Whilst not in the centre of town we found the location was quiet and not at all frantic - & the regular shuttle made it very easy to get into the centre in about 15 mins. Ho Chi Minh city is an easy walking city as it is quite flat and there is lots to see. Thanks to all the staff who were friendly & helpful at all times we would definitely stay here again if visiting Ho Chi Minh City.

Room Tip: Take advantage of the upgrade package if offered.

The hotel itself is great, however, step outside and there isn't much to see or do.
Pool was nice, staff are friendly, service is good. The restaurant and drink prices were a bit pricey given we are in Vietnam.

We booked 4 rooms here for a wedding we were attending in the area.
Given ceremonies were to be conducted in the 6th District - this was the perfect base for us.

The rooms were clean and of a very comfortable standard.
The service was exemplary. Staff were all friendly and accommodating.
Many thanks to the Rooms Division Manager for making the honeymoon night memorable for the married couple.
This is a wonderful base in Ho Chi Minh City - the free shuttle bus allows easy access to key tourist sites in District 1 - in a comfortable airconitioned environment. There is a food street nearby - local street based restaurants - which are very authentic - and a host of other restuarants easily accessible by taxi.

Taxis are also very cheap and clean - so getting anywhere from here was not an issue.

Pool and gym - both relaxing spaces - with good facilities. Used the gymnasium bathrooms on level 3 to shower before our airport departure - given leaving later at night.

Main complaint - buffet breakfast is on the expansive side - given all the taxes.

Cheapest rates found on Expedia - hotel website more expensive - so book elsewhere.

Hotel met our request for non-smoking floor and from the front doorman to reception to cleaning staff were very polite and keen to please their guests.

Many thanks - we would definitely stay again and recommend this place to our friends.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share with us your recent experience while staying at Hotel Equatorial Ho Chi Minh City.
We would like to thank you for your positive feedback as we sincerely value your comments in our continuous effort to provide friendly and efficient service.
However, we have noted your remark in regards to room pricing difference between our hotel's website and Expedia and would like to clarify.
Please kindly be advised that operating as a 5 star international hotel, we practice rate parity and work hard to ensure that our hotel's room rate offered will be the same on our hotel's web page or through the key travel online companies.
Hoping this explanation finds you well, please rest assured we are looking forward to welcoming you back soon.
Thank you for your understanding and best regards.

Our family stayed here two nights as part of a deals.com.au voucher. From the second we arrived to the second we left we enjoyed every minute! We upgraded for an extra $60 USD per room per night to the club level accommodation and it was well worth it, included free wifi, better room and free drink and food at the club lounge most of the day (plus other perks). Breakfast each morning in the club lounge was a delight and John Nguyen was a fantastic breakfast host, special mention to him! The pool area is lovely and always clean, our first evening we swam and had a cocktail in the pool and it was a lovely atmosphere. The food is fantastic. The chit chat cafe serves great western food as well as vietnamese and it is reasonably priced by western standards (the beef burger shaped as a star is adorable!). The chit chat cafe also had lovely mocktails and smoothies. We went on a Bonsai dinner cruise on the river and our guide 'Sing' was wonderful, the hotel helped organise this and it was easy to do. Rooms are spacious and light and the rain shower is lovely. All staff were great with service and made us feel very welcome. Could not have asked for a better stay here, we hope to return one day!

We stopped 2 nights as part of Deals.com package at Equatorial and were offered upgrade which we readily accepted and was most happy with the hotel and all the facilities that we were given, The 11th floor lounge area was a very popular meeting place for guests and the staff in that area couldn't have been nicer, the area the Hotel is located in is not the best but hey you can't have everything and we were more than happy with our stay so thanks Equatorial well done

Room Tip: 11th floor as part of upgrade was very nice area
