“4 Stars. No more but no less.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

The Renaissance is right on the river and a short distance from the main tourist attractions. It's a hotel of quality but not luxury.

It’s not 5 star and it has no wow element but it is just nice, clean and comfy. It’s a family vacation hotel is what it looks like. At the renaissance Bangkok, when I check in as a Platinum member they bring me to the lounge to check in. Here, with the crowds checking in and out, they told me to have a seat on the crowded couches. Of course, I don’t mind this, but I’m just showing that it’s not a luxury hotel. It is however a 4 star hotel. So the staff were high quality.

Although, I must say, one of the best Plat welcome gifts I’ve had was here. It was just well put together and had local fruits, including a coconut with a straw! And we were upgraded to a suite, which was a real nice suite. Much appreciated!

There are some real great features. It is a beautiful hotel. The rooms are all outward facing and it has the middle open like an indoor courtyard. You can see down 20 some floors to the beautiful lobby. It’s a real elegant hotel to walk around in. And the rooms are nice. Slightly elegant but not luxury. The hotel looks to be slightly old but maintained really well. It’s neither dated or new. It’s not modern but it’s not old.

The club lounge is pretty small but it gives it a personal feel. A nice setting and we had no problem with it’s small size until a sudden dinner rush. Then the staff advised a couple to sit at our table while they waited for a table of their own to open up. This is pretty odd and my wife and I were cool, however it was clear that the other couple wasn’t there to socialize. Anyways, it’s a good quality lounge.

Whether or not I will stay there again depends on the price. If the IC or the PH is close to the same price I would prefer them but if the it’s a good deal, I know I can expect quality.

This hotel was our base in HCMC for two stays in June (4 days and 3 days, with a Mekong Delta 3 day trip in the middle). We chose it for its location close to the main attactions on and around Dong Khoi St, and for its good reviews, and found it very satisfactory. The main sights and dozens of restaurants of all cuisines are within walking distance, and the hotel staff are very helpful if you need a taxi. The rooms are not palatial but are a comfortable size and provide everything you need. The breakfasts are excellent, with a wide choice of Asian and Western food. All the staff we dealt with were obliging, cheerful and efficient. We paid extra for a riverview room and requested a higher floor for the good views, and found this well worthwhile. As other reviewers have said, the Saigon River isn't pretty. But it is dynamic and fascinating (these statements actually sum up HCMC as a whole). Particularly in the early morning and the evening there is a lot of action to observe and, if you wish, photograph from your room or the rooftop pool bar (see photos). Wifi is complimentary for Marriott Club members, so joining before you book is worthwhile.

Room Tip: A riverview room on a higher floor is well worth the extra cost for the views.

Stayed her for just one night on business, but was a great experience. Yes, the hotel itself is a little old, but they have done a good job of keeping it fresh and updated. I especially liked the little touches such as a connectivity kit for your A/V devices. Rooftop pool is big, and has a good view of the river. Location is in the central district, with a lot of food and shopping options nearby. Staff were very friendly and helpful - offering advice and a complementary late checkout.

Room Tip: Try to have one facing the river for great views.

Stayed at the Renaissance Hotel Jun 18-22, 2012. Very nice hotel in a great location. Near good shopping, Ferry Terminal, Water, good resturants. We had 2 rooms with 2 twin beds on the 17flr. Rooms we very big, nice touches like slippers, robes and welcome fruit. Had all the amenities of a 5 star hotel. Bath rooms very clean. Little touches like umbrellas in the room for when it rained and every type of cord for charge hand held devices. The rooms we a bit musty but once you were in it for a bit didn't bother us. The rooftop pools was amazing. A very nice retreat after spending longs day touring around. Especially coming from the Old Qtr. in Hanoi where there are no pools. Food on the roof top was really good. Drinks made to order and the staff very friendly and attentive. Watch out for the guy who makes sure all the chairs are in order. He was not impressed when we moved chairs, umbrellas or didn't dry off as soon as we got out of the water. The resturant - Buffet breakfast amazing. So much to choose from....almost too much. The food is really great, a great selection of all types of food. We had cake and coffee in the lobby lounge one evening. Their cakes go half price after 6pm but you have to take the entire cake. The front desk staff friendly and helpful. The manager (i think) of the resturant/lounge and pool lounge very nice and friendly.

My favorite part of this hotel was the breakfast and the pool :)

Rooms very dated even though we upgraded to club. Club staff great but rooms need more for the price. . Very noisy air con and river view not great. Breakfast was the highlight.

My second time staying in this hotel. Wonderfully located right on the river with plenty of action happening in the city. The breakfast buffet is very good and the service is exceptional in the hotel, no matter what you do. Even though on business, I couldn's ask fo rmore!

Room Tip: Reserve on the riverside of hte hotel....great view.

The hotel looks run down and desperately needs a make over. It is not the usual marriott standard at all. The location on the riverside is ok but the river facing rooms are not worth the money as the river is not so pretty. We used our extra points to upgrade to the club floor but it was not worth it. It is a long walk to the local market so not that convenient for shopping. THe other 5 star hotels in Saigon are far superior in my opinionnot
