If you need a place to eat that's unusual in Saigon then the I.D Cafe could be for you.
It is located just one block north of Ben Thanh, just after the junction on your right as you walk away from the market. The ground floor operates as a fine bakery and is one of the entrances to the cafe. The very next door is the main one and it opens up onto the staircase which leads upstairs to the cafe itself.
Once up at the cafe level you will find it was worth the climb. Not at all like many Saigon eateries you may have visited.
This place is filled with retro chic items and comfy furniture, who'd have thought it from the look of the outside. The atmosphere was a welcome break from the chaos of eating out on the street as we had been.
The staff were swift and polite at all times, were well turned out in smart clothes and were attentive all the time of our visit.
On the menu were many choices including standard Vietnamese fair, western favourites or some imaginative fusion specials.
All our food was delicious and served without delay.
To summarise, if you have had your fill of chaotic street food or eaten too much Pho at your hotel restaurant you could do yourself a favour and check out the I.D Cafe in District 1.
