Monsoon is a class act, started by a Thai lady restauranteur, who clearly knows what she is doing.
The menu has a variety of dishes from Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos. Authentic? Probably. I don't know, but they are certainly very good.
The decor of the restaurant is instantly appealing. It is really beautifully furnished - modern Asian, but not minimalist or stark. A really delightful place to have a meal (especially downstairs). The service is cheerful and professional. And the prices are reasonable. I wasn't sure whether to give 4 or 5 stars overall; so I gave 4. If offered the choice, I would have given 4 1/2 stars.
We had a good Thai green curry and one outstanding dish - one of the chef's specialities - a grilled aubergine and shrimp salad, which was absolutely delicious, full of tiny bits of crispy fried onions and loads of garlic. Exceptional. A fish curry from Myanmar was also very good.
The desserts are high quality as well - the banana fritters and vanilla ice cream being a particular favourite.
Monsoon has to succeed, because it is just too good to fail. Strongly recommended.
