My friends and I actually stayed at the other City Hotel (an extension of this one) just the other side of the street. From the outside, it looks like a very small hotel but once inside we found that the space is very well managed. The rooms are big, new, clean, and has lots of amenities and freebies - so nice that my friends and I decided to get out a little later the next day to have time to relax before going on with our walking tour of the city.
Service is very good - the staff are very helpful and always smiling. They speak good English as well, so communicating with them is a breeze. The guard is a funny guy. :) He was always laughing, which is a breath of fresh air from all the variety of people we've encountered during our 3-country-tour.
Our breakfast buffet - we had to go to City Hotel 2 to avail of it, which is just a minute of walk from across the street. The food is good and the serving is more than adequate. (Note: catsup=tomato sauce)
The hotel is at an alley near and a minute of walk away from Ben Thanh Market, and there are restaurants and spas around the area, within 2-5 minutes of walk. One might worry about the noise coming from the market, but the area was quiet at nighttime and we didn't hear a single sound from outside - and our room had a very large window that was facing the alley.
Tip: Check with the concierge as to which of the food & drinks provided in the rooms are free. The chips and the items in the mini-fridge aren't, although they don't cost much. Freebies include bottles of water and sachets of coffee and tea. Boiling kettle, cups and saucers are also provided.
Will stay here again when I visit Ho Chi Minh City.
