“Recommended to stay here!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

Confused to choose which hotel to stay, I booked 2 rooms at this hotel. Even though the room that I booked has no window/balcony, but the condition of the room very comfort! My first impression when step in the room, I feel like at home. The staffs are friendly and helpful even they can't really speak in English, but they can understand a bit what we were asking.

Stayed here one night in a standard room. Overall thought it was great value and staff were very helpful.
The room had no windows but had high ceilings to make up for it. The beds were very comfortable and having no windows meant it was very quite.
The bathroom was small and had the asian style shower where it is next to the toilet without a curtain (but the shower had good hot water and pressure!).
The wifi was free but seemed a little weak.
The hotel was very close to the market and lots of food around.

After being disappointed by another hotel we had booked, we found this little gem that was everything we wanted. They had a room available on a high floor with huge room, private balcony, and bathroom. It was also very clean. The service was wonderful and seemed like a family run business, with warmth and courtesy. The staff were very polite and friendly, and we were greeted smiles every time we entered or left the hotel. Despite being close to the Ben Thanh markets, it was a secure and very quiet hotel. It was also close to other shopping areas and only a stroll to the backpacker district. Basically a little sanctuary in the heart of it all. Thanks to the staff for making our stay in HCMC a pleasure.

This hotel is very beautiful, very spacious, very clean, well lit, and has very good location.

The breakfast was satisfactory (although you have to go to the other city hotel for your breakfast). The staffs were very helpful and efficient.

This hotel is just a stone throw away from Ben Thanh Market and night market so shopping was very easy for us. It is also very accessible to other establishments.

City hotel is a good deal for your money!

My friends and I actually stayed at the other City Hotel (an extension of this one) just the other side of the street. From the outside, it looks like a very small hotel but once inside we found that the space is very well managed. The rooms are big, new, clean, and has lots of amenities and freebies - so nice that my friends and I decided to get out a little later the next day to have time to relax before going on with our walking tour of the city.
Service is very good - the staff are very helpful and always smiling. They speak good English as well, so communicating with them is a breeze. The guard is a funny guy. :) He was always laughing, which is a breath of fresh air from all the variety of people we've encountered during our 3-country-tour.
Our breakfast buffet - we had to go to City Hotel 2 to avail of it, which is just a minute of walk from across the street. The food is good and the serving is more than adequate. (Note: catsup=tomato sauce)
The hotel is at an alley near and a minute of walk away from Ben Thanh Market, and there are restaurants and spas around the area, within 2-5 minutes of walk. One might worry about the noise coming from the market, but the area was quiet at nighttime and we didn't hear a single sound from outside - and our room had a very large window that was facing the alley.
Tip: Check with the concierge as to which of the food & drinks provided in the rooms are free. The chips and the items in the mini-fridge aren't, although they don't cost much. Freebies include bottles of water and sachets of coffee and tea. Boiling kettle, cups and saucers are also provided.

Will stay here again when I visit Ho Chi Minh City.

Our stay at this hotel was satisfactory.

What we liked
- Our room (deluxe) was large and clean.
- The bathroom was also large and clean. Toiletries were provided.
- When I had looked at photos of the bathroom I was concerned that water would leak from the shower onto the floor, but this proved to NOT be the case.
- Great location: The hotel was next to Ben Than Market, which made it easy for taxis to find. From the hotel, we walked to many restaurants, shops, and spas. It was also a short taxi ride to almost everywhere we wanted to go (have the hotel call a taxi for you).
- In room safe
- There is in-house laundry service available (but we didn't use it and the prices were a bit high).
- The hotel let us check-in at 3 am (we paid for that night, but we arrived very late. When we notified them of our late arrival, they had someone sleeping in the lobby so that we could check in. At first, with a dark lobby and a gate over the door we thought it was closed, but once we rattled the gate, the receptionist came and unlocked the door).
- The staff was very friendly.
- We were given extra towels when we asked for them.
- Air conditioning worked very well and could stay on after you left the room.

What we didn't like
- There wasn't very much storage space for clothes and unpacking.
- The breakfast wasn't good -- the food was bland and not much variety was offered.
- After the first night, the bed was made for us but the sheets were not changed. I know this because my hair was still on the sheets and pillow cases.
- The hotel staff seemed to have limited knowledge of the area. Each time we asked them a question, they would just look on Google. Also, there were no maps of the area or tourist information.

Tips and other helpful information:
- Not all rooms have windows. If having a window is important to you, then check the room description carefully before making a reservation. We had a window, but I don't think it really mattered, as most of the time we kept the shades drawn and we used the Air Conditioner for ventilation and cooling the room.
- There is a night market at Ben Than Market (just steps away from the hotel) and stores are lively in the evening on the street of the hotel, so if you prefer quiet, you may want to reconsider staying in this area. The streets usually quieted down around 9-10pm, and we had no trouble sleeping and no issue with noise.
- The cost of a Coke from the mini-fridge was 12,000 vnd and the cost of a water from the fridge was 10,000 vnd. The complimentary waters were very small.

After visiting Saigon previously we knew that if you pre-book a hotel it is often not as it appears on the website! So we carefully looked at this hotel and booked one night to begin with. When we arrived we found it to be down a small road near the central market. As soon as we walked up to the hotel the door was opened for us by the security guard (often they just sit outside hotels, smoke and play on their mobiles and get paid for it) who was very friendly and we were immediatly greeted by two people behind the desk who spoke good English. We had booked a deluxe room for the first night and when we were shown up we were really pleased with it. It had a HUGE king size bed with very clean bedding, a lovely bathroom with a seperate shower so you don't get everything wet! A table and 2 chairs, large window, a desk and large mirror, a safe, a massive lcd tv with cable channels, a phone that you can use for international calls (very cheap) and a fridge. When we went to bed it was very quiet and we slept very well. We decided we wanted to extend our stay here for 1 more night but they only had a superior room available as it was Sat night and we should have booked 2 nights in the first place! So after looking at the superior room it was just as nice as the deluxe room and very large, it just didn't have a window but that didn't matter! All rooms had great air-con and free wi fi. The staff were excellent at booking a tour for us, looking after and moving our bags when needed and they even let us print off a few pages on their computer for free!
