After a lot of pushing, cajoling, and some begging and shoving, I convinced my darling (she reads my comments) wife to come to the Wonderful restaurant of Bobby Chinn here in HCMC. Perhaps the lunch special of an all you care to eat Salad Bar, one main dish, and coffee or tea for only $10 USD, or 199,000 VND, had something to do with her acquiescence, because I had been excited about eating at this restaurant ever since they opened. I dragged her in as she kvetched that the food probably wasn't good. The restaurant is a model of understated elegance, and the food on the salad bar looked beautiful.
It tasted even better than it looked, from the silky white bean hummus to a mild anchovy flavor ranch dressing, to a great baby tomato and mozzarella di buffala salad with a feather light extra extra virgin olive oil sprinkling. Many more dishes were each unique and delicious--you must go and try for yourself!
The main dish choices were a mild chicken curry, pizza, pho, and a burger. Our Pho and curry choices were delicious, altho KL said the Pho was skewed to the tastes of foreigners, lacking the pungent and sometimes TOO pungent smell of Pho for Vietnamese. My curry was delicious and served with a perfect white rice, or you could get some of the fresh baked bread or pita from the salad bar.
We finished our feast with Caphe Sua Da, Vietnamese coffee, and my often critical wife was VERY happy and will require a simple invitation to return to this fabulous restaurant! I can hardly wait to dine at Bobby's again.
