“Absolutely Fabulous!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

After a 5 night stay in the 'posh' area (very sanitized and international), we wanted our kids to experience getting in and amongst it in Pham Ngu Lao. We stumbled on Golden Wind and were impressed with the rooms and price. The labyrinth of alleyways gave great insight into how HCMC inner city locals live ... kids playing hopscotch; Nana's wandering in their pajamas's; religious celebrations; music; people clipping their toenails in their underwear, sharing meals ... real life!

The rooms were pleasant and well equipped, the price was good and the staff were the most exceptional we have encountered in Vietnam. They were proficient in English, had a great sense of humor and went out of their way to assist us. We loved the simple breakfast: a crusty baguette, spectacular pho and eggs any way you choose - perfect way to start the day.

I cannot fault this hotel ... we traveled with 3 children aged 14 - 7 and stayed in adjoining rooms. It was clean, safe and walking distance to a myriad of restaurants, bakery's, shops and spa's. Each night after dinner we would sit in the park over the road and watch the locals play soccer, badminton and practice dance routines.

If you want to be clean and safe but amongst the hustle and bustle of Saigon this is a well priced hotel with great staff in an exceptional location!

We had a nice stay in the Golden Wind hotel. We had no problems finding it, just DONT check googlemaps or so, because the location in not correct. Check the photo of one of the other reviewers and you'll find it. Just keep walking the Pham Ngu Lao from Ben Than untill you see the little street on the photo.
The room we had (406) was clean and nice. It was cleaned every day and we also had new towels every day. We had WiFi, although it was not very fast.
The breakfast is a little poor, a french bread or toast with omelet, jam or creamcheese and something to drink. Not enough for a whole breakfast.
We had warm water in the shower, but you'll have to wait a little while. At the end of our stay we paid in VND, instead of dollars and there was no problem.

Room Tip: We had a room at the 4th floor, and that was quiet.

After staying in another hotel in the middle of the city, I decided to try this one. It was definitely worth the move. For the same price, I had a room with a window to the outside and more space, a big bathroom and a very convenient location.

This was a very good value and I would return.

My first trip to Vietnam. Arrived at midnight to be met by a friend who then took me to the hotel. Not sure if I would have found it easily without him and especially at this time of night. (see my photos) Met by very friendly receptionist and shown straight to room. Room clean and tidy, plenty of wardrobe and storage. Good sized bathroom. Next morning to be met by a lovely receptionist, really chatty and friendly. She was so helpful. This hotel, though in a back alley is a 1 minute walk to main street. A bonus being off the main road as there is no street noise. Free wi-fi. Room serviced every day. I stayed here on 3x separate occasions during my stay in Vietnam. My only comment was that there was no hot water. BUT when you have 30 to 39 degree heat who wants a hot shower!! The cold water was bliss. Great bars and eateries only minutes away. Would definitely stay here again

Room Tip: 403 was the room I had, good sized window, no noise from street or lane way. All of the "03&quo...

stay there for 5 days. though the hotel is just 2 stars only, but the facilities is quite good. the room is very nice. if you go there, please meet one of their worker named "Hau". His English is good and he can be your tour guide. He is very helpful and friendly.overall, even the hotel is quite far from the Ben Thanh Market but if you've become familiar with the road n all, it shouldnt be any problems. I walked everyday and it took me only 5 minutes to go to Ben Thanh Market. I enjoyed stay there for 5 days.

I thought this hotel was quite near from Ben Thanh market at first, now I know its actually took more than 10 minutes walking. You can't see the hotel from the roadside because it is situated inside the area, you need to check the address number to make sure u didn't get lost. Have to walk the narrow streets to reach the hotel. My friend and I stayed there for 8 days, we never take the breakfast, the internet was quite good, I can check my fb, email & google map using my phone and iPad. The room was okay, but not very well maintain. We had issue with the toilet door, no flush & no hot water. We also had problems with the room door key lock, not that easy to open the door. There's tv, mini fridge and telephone, while no kettle but you can ask the staff. The staffs are very nice and helpful and can speak english. There are a few halal restaurants near the hotel, so it will be easy for muslim to snack around. The price is cheap and the tour price also cheap, we took Mekong tour for only USD10 per person, that quite cheap when compared to other tourists that we met during the tour. The taxi to the airport only about USD 9.
