My friend and I went to La Villa for their special Christmas Day Lunch, which was prearranged in advance.
First impressions, very good, we chose to sit inside. Good presentation, clean and airy, with good tableware and linen.
The special Christmas lunch was overall excellent, and although expensive for a meal in Vietnam we did not mind because 1. we saw buffets advertised outside the big hotels downtown, with comparable prices, and 2. a meal like this would be out of our budget at home.
We have had enough foie gras and truffles to keep us going for the whole of 2013, or at least until we go to France mid-year.
The stuffed cockerel was sumptuous, as were the desserts.
My couple of negatives: after paying 1.7 mill dong each for the meals, when we were offered a (small) flute of champagne on arrival, we made the wrong assumption that it was complimentary, as we have had in other places, on cruise ships, etc. OK, I should have queried it but it would have seemed bad form at the time. To be charged 480,000 dong for these was disappointing.
The entree, the 2 langoustines/ scampi, although very well presented, only gave the tiniest amount to eat. I was tempted to ask for a utensil to crack the claws just to have a bit more!
Overall, a pleasant Christmas Day.
