“Great Location - Genuine 4 Star, Reception Staff Need Training”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2011

You could not ask for a better location. Well appointed rooms with very helpful concierge and wait staff. You get a lot for $80 a night by western standards. Both restaraunts were top notch and all the amenaties, includung the Spa were top notch.

One area that needs attention is the reception staff, they were not overly friendly and helpful. The only thing I have issue with was the transfer from the airport for 5 people was charged at $30 one way (it's only $8 to $10 in a cab), but when the vehicle arrived at the airport with 3 staff members, there was barely enough room for the 5 of us and no room for luggage. The hotel team member says no problems, they'll just get a cab for the luggage. It wasn't until we checked out that we found out that the hotel wanted to charge us for the taxi, which I refused. After debating the merits of me emailing the hotel on 3 occaisions, stating we had 5 passengers with one suitcase each, the assistant manager argued that we had too much luggage, hence the charge. We got it sorted it out after a lot of discussion, without having to pay, but who the needs the hassles.

Stayed at this property for four nights. The reception enterance and lobby were impressive, which is a different story to the rooms. Generally, our room was cramped and a little noisy. We were located in a corner room and we could hear when the people in the room next to us were talking and their crying baby. My fiend in another room did not have this propblem, so maybe it was just the corner room with this problem. Also, in the late afternoon we could hear the traffic from the street, even though we were on the eigth floor. The restaurant offers spectatular views of the city at night, so it is ideal for a relaxing drink at twilight. The breakfast was adequate, but finished a little too early at 9.30am. The location of the hotel is excellent with many attractions a sgort walk away.

Good location, ok price, comfy.

We arrived with jet lag from London and we stayed for two nights - cost $228

The rooms size was fine and on the 9th floor, kettle and coffee machine in the room with free water on the side (but paid for water in the fridge), tv, safe etc with a great view toward the market.

The location was perfect in between the indoor market and the Reunification Palace - most things were a short walk which was good as we got used to the heat.

Room was a fair size with a nice big king size bed which was very comfy for an asian bed (not too hard) so great for sleeping off jet lag.
Good size bathroom with nice shower - although it had more jets and settings than anyone could surely need!

Nice small pool on the 16th floor with good views, nice to have a dip at the end of the day.

Breakfast - so day one we were on the 17th floor - loads of choice asian and western style - great fruit and banana cake - day two we were in the over flow restaurant on the16th floor in the bar near the pool as a coach party had filled the place - considerably less choice - but all you need to do is pop up the stairs and help yourself to the big buffet - or ask then to get you stuff. There was an egg chef on the 16th though.

Staff were friendly enough and helpful when needed. It is $7 from the airport in a taxi if you prepay at the desks as you come out of arrivals (beware if they try and charge you extra to get out the airport that is cheeky and should be included) but pretty much the same going back in a metered taxi.

Great restaurant - if you turn left out of the hotel and walk up the road a few junctions - Houng Lai - find it in Lonely Planet - but it was yummy.

Free wifi everywhere in the hotel

We picked this hotel because it's only one block away from Ben Thanh and also because it has a pool. It's also just behind the Reunification Palace and two blocks away from HCMC Museum - very handy.

The rooms are compact, but comfortable. We didn't hear any noise from the street below. The corner shower unit is pretty funky, a neat contraption. The only niggle was the auto-sensing handbasin tap, which is either all-or-nothing for water flow.

Brekkie is decent, enough to satisfy both western and eastern palates. The small pool is great, refreshing after walking the hot and dusty Saigon streets! Poolside gym equipment is also good. Pool deck gets sun most of the day, if you're into melanoma-inducing sun-roasting. :)

We bumped into the General Manager a few times and he was very friendly and speaks good English. Pleasant and helpful, no hesitation in answering any of our questions.

Good amenities and service and very handy location seals it for us. We also booked through Aurora Travel (vietnamstay.com), who got us an excellent rate, lower than booking direct or on Agoda, Expedia, etc.

We'd definitely stay there again.

We didn't have a great start, arriving at the hotel to be told that our two rooms booked for 3 people could only fit two people as they were too small to put in another bed. The hotel acknowledged that they had it on their records as for three per room but never bothered to tell us it wasn't possible. Staff were very unhelpful just continually repeating that we couldnt all fit even though they had the room booked for 3 adults. They then tried to make us pay for a third room, never offering any compromise when the problem was completely their fault. In the end they gave us a third room (so small you literally could not put a suit case on the floor at any point in the room (and this is a closed suit case). This room also had a 'all in one bathroom' which meant showering whilst standing over the toilet so the entire bathroom (including wooden door) was soaked after showering.

The other rooms we had both had problems with showers, both shower doors did not seal and the angle of the water from the shower head meant the water just filled up the bathroom floor before seeping out into the room. (a problem fixed by putting a extra towel on the floor blocking the exit)

Other than these problems everything was fine, breakfast was VERY basic, no juice provided only tea and water.

Beds were comfy though, not hard at all like others in asia.
Location was perfect too, just a block from Benh Than Markets.

Our main problem outside the hotel was that we struggled to find decent vietnamese food (the only place in vietnam we had this problem!) not sure if we were just looking in the wrong places!

If they had better staff and breakfast would be a far better hotel.

After a long day of walking through the smog & dirt of Ho Chi Minh City, the rooms were a great place to unwind & wash up.
The shower looked as if N A S A built it. Below the main shower head were several other jets that shooted out at various heights. Good for cleaning those stubborn orifices that we can't always see. This shower is sure to amuse small minded people like me!!
The beds & pillows put the Com, back into cumfort. Very comfortable indeed.

My only gripe with the place was experienced while checking out. You see, while checking in, we'd asked for, and was granted a late check (3pm), but all this was conveniently forgotten come cehck out day & the on duty manager tried charging additioanl 50% of room price.
Naturually, I was having none this. The whole episode was handling very poorly. The manager rang all staff working on the desk from our check in date, and had them speak to us over the phone. Unprofessional indeed, and had to entertain these people with the same answers to the same questions for nearly 30 minutes.
