“NICE SHOW”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

I found it entertaining - nothing great, but a Must Go when you are there. The puppeteers were very good and made the figurs come to live with their skill. There is some dailogue, but it is not necessary to understand Vietnamese to enjoy the show.

“Very different kind of show”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

Saw the leaflet about water puppet show and also reading the travel guide about it. We decide to go. Abit pricey to go in. The show lasted for 50 mins I think and My little son age 8 enjoyed it. It really a show for children and not adult. It very colourful and beautiful music was made regarding to the movement of the puppet. It spoke Vietnamese and not English but nice to hear something different. It mainly about the Life of Vietnam into the story, the Chinese culture, dragon fishing etc.. No idea what it is about. Ideal for tourist with children.

“Something *unique* to see”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

Everyone in the place was a tourist, but we all seemed to have a good time.

Expect that unless you speak Vietnamese, you won't really understand a single thing - strangely enough, that is entirely sufficient for watching a water puppet show.

While this is not in the control of the establishment, we did encounter a terrible experience with a taxi driver lurking outside of the water puppet show who had a secret switch on this taxi meter - that doubled the price with the flick of the switch. Literally. In the beginning the taxi driver spoke perfect English, and as he progressed through the 5 minutes we were in his cab, he started to profess that he couldn't understand us, was lost, etc. you name the excuse, we heard it. It was so bad that we paid him the fare showing on the meter mid-way through the ride, only to find out that we had been circling around and hadn't really gotten any closer to our hotel.

Apparently this taxi rip off thing is common - so beware of walking outside tourist places, as they are riddled with opportunistic "entrepreneurs".

“Well you have to do it.”

For US7, it is worth to support the cultural show. Although I will love to understand the content of the singing if there was subtitle to it.

“Traditional, but overrated.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

Ok, I was told that the water puppet show was almost a "must see" in Saigon, so here we are buying some tickets. I don't want to "spoil" the fun for you, but once it started the magic was the moment where you try to realize how they control the puppets, after that is a traditional way to spend 40 minutes yawning at some weird (for Westerners) tunes and a lady with a pitch that made you wanted to slide her accidentally into the water... LOL.
