“The definition of a mid range boutique hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2010

We read the reviews, were enthusiastic but hesitated a bit because of the location. We are very glad we stayed at Ma Maison on our arrival in Vietnam. A lot of 'well being' value for the price. It is an oasis, a gem, as stated in previous reviews; It took a moment to get used to the 'no shoes policy' but it contributed to this special sensation. Away from the hectic city life. We liked the location because it's out of the tourist area and you meet the friendly locals. Easy and inexpensive to go there by taxi, short ride from centre and airport. Natasha Long and staff were very helpfull especially during the Tet festival. She is also a nice person to talk to and gave us some insights in Vietnamese traditions. We enjoyed the spa in the Caravelle hotel which was suggested to us. On our 15 day journey through Vietnam, with this reference as a standard, we never found a similar 'boutique' hotel again.

Dear valued guests,

Thank you very much for your good comments! Wish you all the best with your daily life and work.

We would like to say thank you again for your choosing Ma Maison as your stay in Saigon destination. It was more than happy to be one of our first guests in the new year.

As a tradition, on Lunar New Year, our Vietnamese people always hope to have chance to welcome friendly international guests who are fond of boutique hotel style.
Ma Maison is quite new but we always try our best to offer standard service as much possible as any other boutique hotels in the world.

Please do keep in touch and we would be longing for the nearest day we meet again.
We wish you always healthy and happy ever.

Best regards,
Natasha & Ma Maison Team

I had originally booked a room at the Grand Hotel, but changed my reservations based on the positive reviews on TA. The hotel is a chic & charming oasis tucked away in a non-touristy part of the city. The staff is incredibly warm, generous & very helpful; they really contribute to make the hotel a very special place. This is a boutique hotel, so it may not appeal to those wanting a standardized, large-hotel experience. Also, people should be aware of the following:

- It is not in downtown. It is a 10-15 minute taxi ride ($3-4). The hotel will call a taxi (never took more than a few minutes) & it was never a problem getting a taxi back to the hotel & finding the hotel. HCMC is not a city with an endearing downtown or overwhelming cultural activities. While I usually want to be right in the middle of the action, I did not miss being downtown at all. (However, make sure to have hotel pickup from airport, it makes it so much easier to find the first time & is not expensive.)
- There is no elevator. Hotel is a large townhouse with small atrium. Don't stay here if the steps will be a problem. (The porter will take your luggage up & down the stairs to your room.)
- You have to travel through alleys to get to the hotel. I never felt unsafe, but they are not picturesque Parisian side streets. They are narrow, dark, working alleys filled with Vietnamese not catering to tourists.

If you don't mind the above, Ma Maison is worth a visit. The rooms are nicely appointed (not huge, but a decent size) with good light & amenities (including internet cable, though ours was a little unreliable - free wifi in lobby level). Once again Natasha & her staff really go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Breakfast is great (pho or full western breakfast), everyone is constantly doing little extras to make you comfortable. When they call a taxi, they escort you down the alley to meet the taxi after it arrives & make sure that the driver understands the directions. Natasha made a whole series of plane reservations & constantly fielded phone calls for us. I would highly recommend Ma Maison.

Really enjoyed staying here in this quiet little alley, amidst the busy shopping area of District 3, with not a tourist in sight. Don't be too hasty about jumping in a taxi to District 1 - the surrounding streets and nearby park are great to explore and the street food available on the main street is quite stunning - there is an incredible banh xeo (rice pancake) place just to the right of the department store on the main road which looks scary (and is a little) but is well worth a visit. The hotel itself is charming and delivers perfect rooms and service to a very high standard. The only criticism we had is that the hotel is a bit too renovated - a lot of the character of the original house has been lost somewhere along the way, leaving the rather small rooms looking a little corporate-hotel, which is a bit of a shame. I would however recommend this hotel highly it's something very different which deserves to be supported.

We had high expectations when we arrived at Ma Maison, and we were not disappointed. The hotel is hidden in a small quiet neighborhood, and when you pass through the gates to the hotel it's like entering a different, quiet and gorgeous world. The hotel is immaculate, elegantly furnished and extremely comfortable. Ms Natasha and her staff are very sweet and eager to help with anything you require. The breakfast was also very good. I would recommend this place to anyone!

I see some people here don't like the location - I don't really understand how it's a problem. The thing about HCMC, as I see it, is that it isn't really a city that is great for walking. There is a lot of traffic, everywhere, all the time - except outside Ma Maison. We used taxis frequently anyway, and it was no bother to get to and from the hotel.

I hope to go back some day!

We spent three nights in this hotel, despite some trouble we had when checking in.
We weren't too happy with our hotel in central Saigon, so I found this hotel, which looks very nice on the website. I first emailed them about a vacancy, then called in the morning to tell them we were coming the same day. No problem, they said, just check out of your hotel, leave the luggage, have a great day and come to our hotel the same evening. As confirmation they took my credit card number. When arriving there in the evening we were greeted with a rather spectacular "so who are you? we are fully booked". Then the owner offered to pay the taxi ride to another hotel. We were furious. They had mingled the names and some othe guy had snatched our room. After some discussion and a short lesson in "problem awareness" we were given a single room for that night (free of charge) and invited to a dinner and a glass of wine.
Everything turned out fine in the end. The single rooms' bed was large about 1,20 across, breakfast was excellent, and the room we took for the next two nights was probably one of the best we had in Southeast Asia. Staff were very kind and helpful, and Ma Maison ist really a retreat in a quiet back alley in Saigon. Its only setback is the location, which is some 20 minutes from the centre, so be prepared for quite a lot of taxi rides to all the attractions or pickup locations for tourist busses. Plus there are none of Saigons fancier restaurants in the vicinity. We found it was worth it.

We stayed at this super clean and comfortable boutique hotel in December 2009. We were originally booked for 2 nights but extended it by another night after we did our day trip to District 1. We needed to get away from all the chaos of the city! It is in a quiet residential area in District 3. As we walked through the alleys to get to the hotel, we could peak into the homes of the locals and get a glimpse of what daily life is like for them. The children were often playing out in the courtyard and they would wave to us or say 'hello'. Across the main street, there is a park where the locals go for their exercise. We went there late one afternoon and found them doing tai chi, jogging, etc. There was a concrete area where some couples where practicing their ballroom dance routines so we joined in wearing our sneakers. That was quite memorable for us.

The staff is terrific and Natasha couldn't be more helpful. We loved the special treat she gave us with our breakfast.

As for the taxi ride to town, it only took around 20 minutes and it didn't cost very much so that wasn't a problem for us at all. Natasha sent her driver to pick us up at the airport when we arrived and the staff ordered the taxi when we needed it.

If you are adventurous enough to try a really good authentic restaurant, ask Natasha and she will ask the taxi driver to take you. There were no tourists in this huge restaurant and the food was outstanding and authentic. We had to use sign language but one of the waiters did speak a little English.

Ma Maison is a beautiful hotel no question about this but you have to be aware of the location. You need a taxi every time to go to the centre and with the traffic in Ho Chi Minh at every time of the day it means spending hours in a taxi, this is the only downside but a big downside for us. It is convenient for the airport and the train station but for the rest is a NO NO. The stuff is very helpful and nice, the building and the rooms are brand new, beautiful decor but I am afraid for a tourist the location is not the best. Up to you...

Dear Mdm. Rosangela,

Thank you for staying with us!

It is no doubt to say that Ma Maison is far away from the hustle and bustle of Saigon. Ma Maison is real a sweet home that you are looking forward to come back after a long day tour.

15 or 20 minutes by taxi to the center with the budget of 50.000 – 70.000 VND/ per time (equivalent to 3.4 USD) is not big deal for any travelers who want to have a nice place to stay and discover the real Saigon life.

More wonderful than that, Ma Maison Boutique Hotel Saigon has offered the most comfortable and quiet all night long, hasn’t it? As this thing you could never get from the hotels located in tourist area like Pham Ngu Lao.

We hope you somehow had a good time at Ma Maison!

Best regards,
