“Fabulous Gem of Saigon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2010

This little boutique hotel has a great location on Dong Khoi Street. Restaurants and attractions are a few minutes walk away. Wonderful hotel with great breakfast and very friendly and helpful staff. When next in Saigon, I'll be staying here again.

Stayed at Catina for a total of 5 nights in Jan 2010. Hotel is very well situated just opposite the Sheraton at the posh end of town (which I much prefer to the backpacker district) - most of the sights are within walking distance. Staff very friendly and welcoming as because this is a small hotel you get the personal service which is so often lacking in the larger establishments (reception manager booked me another hotel in Mui Ne and in general showed much appreciated commercial acumen). Standard rooms are a good size with all the facilities you'd expect from a hotel in this category. Breakfast buffet is good. Twin rooms are all windowless which is slightly disconcerting at first - but then again how much time do you spend in your room during the day anyway? And no window also means quiet and excellent for getting a good night's sleep (welcome respite from the traffic outside). Internet booking will secure the best rates here. Only negative is that the doormen hailed a very pricy taxi to take me to the airport - make sure you take a reputable taxi firm like VinaSun.

We stayed at this hotel during Christmas with our young daughter. We stayed in a junior suite and the room was huge with a huge king size bed. Just nice for the three of us. The bathroom was a good size. Linen and towels were plush. The hotel is like a boutique hotel which is small and personal. The lobby is small and the staff were always friendly and made a huge effort to show our daughter lots of attention. Breakfast is at the restaurant on the second floor which has a nice view overlooking the street. It was nice to watch people going about their early morning activities while relaxing over breakfast. Food was of a high standard. Minimal choices but good all the same. Laundry and minibar prices were expensive like most hotels. Location was excellent. Located centrally and we could walk everywhere. Only negative was our room was right next to the lift and on Christmas Eve the hotel seemed noisier than usual as there was a hotel party being held in the restaurant.

I stayed in the Junior Suite. The room was superb. I would have chosen the deluxe room had I not been mislead by the hotel saying that only the Junior Suite had a shower. They meant only the Suite had a shower cubicle (huge cubicle though). All the rooms actually have a shower over the bath.
The breakfast was ok, not the best.
There was a constant smell of sewer in the lobby. There was not an adequate sitting space in the lobby area either. The free internet in the lobby kept crashing as well due to a virus.
The location was excellent. Make sure you specify the rooms with a window to the street.
The English of the staff is not very good.

almost new hotel. a/c quiet, working great. room emmaculate and huge. bed huge and comfortable. towels thick. bathroom small but top of the line fixtures. breakfast small selection but excellent service. located in very safe part of town. stayed at windsor for one night and it was no comparison in terms of facilites, service, location. Windsor did have bigger breakfast selection. only downside is no windows, but it was dark and quiet..perfect for sleep. only wish they had free wi fi in room

We were originally in the Renaissance but checked in here for our last 2 nights, we got B&B for $90 which for its location is excellent. Its a new hotel and we happened to notice it one night walking back to the R, the place is brand new, white and very clean and modern and the front desk staff and the breakfast staff were so accommodating, not like the Renaissance.
The only quirk people might find a bit strange is that some of the rooms and indeed the room we stayed in does not have a window but when you are out and about all day, and only come back in the evening it was something that we did not notice( the pretend one was very convincing).
Could not fault it, however it had no pool or gym but we were in HCMC to see the place.
