“Lovely boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2011

Sanouva Hotel is a small but lovely boutique hotel. Upon arrival you will be greeted by a smiling member of the concierge. The ladies at the front desk were also waiting with smiles on their faces. Checking in was easy. We requested for a tour boking to Cuchi Tunnel and we were given confirmation immediately. The room has a queen sized bed with TV. The bathroom was clean and of good size. The best feature of this hotel is that they have free wifi in the room and Ben Tanh Market is just behind it. There are also many coffee shops and eateries around the area. Breakfast is just ok but we didn't like that they allow smoking in the area.
Overal, this hotel is great. I've already recommended it to my friends who are going to Ho Chi Min next month.

Our itinerary was slightly altered so I had to travel solo in Saigon for 3 nights without my husband. Instead for staying at the Hyatt as we originally had planned, I decided to book at Sanouva for a more authentic experience but surely was uncertain whether I did the right thing. I could now say that it was the right choice and was pleased w my adventurous decision. Bien, the hotel manager and all her staff were fantastic in their customer service. They were attentive to my needs from giving directions, tour booking and food services. Their breakfast was quality perhaps the Asian option was more desirable. There were always at least fried rice, a meat entree, soup and salad. Great dark coffee!
I stayed in the Sanouva Deluxe. It was very clean and well appointed.
There are a few things to be considered:
- No iron available. If your clothes need to be pressed, there's a charge of about a quarter USD per item.
- Walls are thin. I could hear the people next door cough half way thru the night but thankfully I brought ear plugs!
WARNING: No One seemed to stress enough about the danger of crossing the streets.
Walk slow to let the drivers notice you. My family who lives in Vietnam says that the traffic fatality rate is higher than it's being acknowledged.
For a 3 star rating hotel, for me.. as a fussy traveler.. I don't put up with filthiness, unsafe and unpleasant establishments. Sanouva offers a great value!

Our rooms at the Sanouva were a little on the small side but adequate for two one night stays either side of a trip to Phu Quoc. The service at this small, modern, quiet hotel was better than expected for the price. The staff were very professional at this well run hotel and seemed to enjoy looking after their guests. They happily stored some luggage whilst we were away. The checking in/out process was very quick and efficient. The hotel seemed to be popular with business travellers. Located close to Ben Than Market there are a few restaurants nearby.
Their inclusive breakfast is quite basic and the facilities are limited but these are the only criticisms. Would return and based on our experience would recommend for short stays.

Room Tip: Dbl rooms a little small.

This hotel was our first stop in Vietnam. Basically, we figured that we'd only really need a place to sleep, as we'd be touring around Ho Chi Minh City quite a bit, so decided to go budget.

Considering its room prices, the hotel didn't disappoint.
+ It was certainly cleaner than expected. Bed was OK - bit too hard for my liking but doable.
+Breakfast offering was small but well prepared, always boasting some Vietnamese and western dishes.
+It was walking distance to downtown and tourist attractions, and hotel staff were happy to help book tours

- Depending on your room, it can get pretty noisy. We had a room facing a number of houses whose dogs kept us up the whole first night.
- Rooms are small. It's to be expected in this city for this price, but don't think you just struck a goldmine, if you want to move around your room, you need to flash your credit cards.

All in all, they advertise to be a 3 star hotel and that's just about right, especially for a city like HCMC, where we also experienced another hotel during the same trip which was awful (also a 3***). If you, like us, are outside all day for a day or 3, this place is fine. Avoid if you want more than just a bed and breakfast.

The Sanouva Hotel was great. We arrived really late and they were waiting for us and had our room ready to go. The staff was very friendly and helped us with directions, cabs, and even found a pair of shoes my wife left in the room just before we checked out! They also arranged transportation to and from the airport for us. It was a little more expensive than a cab, but helped us avoid the hassle of finding safe transportation late at night. The hotel also had free wireless internet!

The location was great and within walking distance of the large market in Ho Chi Minh. It seemed to be in a pretty safe area too. We walked all around and didn't have any issues. The room was small but nice, quiet, and clean. The hotel provided a good breakfast spread with juice, coffee, and other drinks.

I would recommend the hotel to anyone staying in Ho Chi Minh.

We stayed here for 4 days 3 nights, and I can easily say that I love this hotel. The price is very reasonable, location-wise is very close to the city center (walking distance to Ben Tanh market), room is not very spacious but big enough for us 3 and our overweight luggage, the breakfast is nice with enough variety to keep everyone happy, free and fast wifi in every floor, and what I really love the most about the hotel is the staff. They are just friendly and helpful, the staff speaks and understand English, and nothing was too much of a trouble for them. Just to remind you this is a budget hotel so dont expect fancy 5 star stuff.

Thank you so much Sanouva! We will be back for sure!

We chose this hotel by following favorable reviews here and in some ways it should merit a good but that choice is not on the list. Smiling friendly staff, no travel desk to pester you for tours on the other hand very limited actual assistance and really no quality advice.

Rooms as shown but the minimalism we found irritating and the lack of promised tea and coffee making facilities requiring repeated requests for a kettle, it took 24 hours during our first visit to get one and 2 hours the second time with several calls to reception to ask where it was.

Breakfast is Vietnamese and Western but for the life of me I did not see anyone taking the cold streaky bacon! On the whole the breakfast was a bit stingy and like the whole hotel cut to a budget. Worst thing is that rooms are not serviced prior to being occupied, by this I mean the air conditioning is not turned on so you enter a hot box which takes an hour or 2 to cool the room. No A/c in hallways so an unpleasant experience waiting for the equally hot lift.

Other annoyances the room safe is on the floor in the wardrobe and requires a code every time you lock. This meant sitting on the floor or crouching.

The first room had a large gap in the shower door which allowed shower water into the bathroom making the floor very slippery as is the shower floor. The second room had less of an issue but still a gap.

The location is Ben Tranh market area, a block back and walking distance to the main centre of Sai gon and others. There are plenty of alternative in the area.

WiFi is patchy and seemed to drop out every day at 1700-1800 hours and one critical day we could not log on at all during this time.

Although we were return visitors they failed to notice this and we did not feel any more welcome and in fact it was only the 2nd hotel out of 5 not to flower the room.

Beds OK light switch only on one side.

Just as there is not the tea and coffee making facilities in the room so you have to buy milk from the bar downstairs. Breakfast / bar area is immediately in front of lift and cramped very 2 star!!

One doorman was overfond of resting in the bar at the back of reception the others were more helpful and at their posts.

Value, its hard to evaluate value in Vietnam, we suspect its overpriced and well marketed. You are encouraged to book direct through their web linked site and it appears that they market heavily on Agoda to keep occupancy high.

Finally I thought it was an adequate hotel but you should view this as a minimalist 2.5 star establishment and unlike at least 3 more experienced hotels we stayed in around the Country, inclined to dictate what it thinks is acceptable rather than what is the norm for hotels of its price and ambition. Late check out is not something you charge half daily rates for when 2 star hotels can be had for 24 hours at less than half your half day rate!

Oh the smiles are genuine but it seems to belong to a category of smile but don't deliver which is a curious but maybe understandable result of a liberal command economy !
