“Two days in The South of Viet Nam-A city with crazy transportation...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2012

I stayed one night before leaving for MeKong Delta. The hotel is good located, convenience for us to take a large view, to enjoy outsied lunch & dinner. However, the traffic really made me scared. I could not go across the road once time. All vihicles run too past, sometimes there was some guys without helmets riding a mortorbike very past. If you don't be aware they will hit you and run away.
- The room is good
- Breakfast was ok
- Cleanliness is good
- Sleep: not quite enough for me to sleep because the noise from the vihicles on the road.
Overall, this hotel is good for me to stay a short time because I really do not like Ho Chi Minh city anymore.

On behalf of Thien Thao Hotel, we would like to thank all your reviews on here and a bit disappointing because the traffic jam made you dislike our city. Otherwise, we surely you will feel better when you come back our city with the experience you got. One more thing, if you need our information to make your trip perfectly , let email me, we will help you.

We booked this hotel because of its location, price and breakfast included in the rate.

LOCATION
It is District 3 and you can walk to all important places or travel by taxi (reliable VINASUN always outside, MAILINH good as well, others are fake - their meters spin like crazy and will charge you a few times more! They will even try to sell you currency. Just don't trust drivers chasing you as V. and M. are always around and drivers won't nag you).

ROOM
Superior room with a queen bed is nice and cosy (not too big), with air con, safe and many TV channels including HBO. Wi fi works in the room and there are 3 computers available in the reception. Bathroom is fresh and clean, good shower.

There is a kettle in the room but there are no cups... And only teabags available however coffee was downstairs. There are glasses in the room but they don't give complementary water in a superior room. This is a minus and this is the only one hotel i stayed in while traveling in Asia where we didn't get bottled water.

BREAKFAST
Breakfast to be ordered - an omelette, scrambled or fried eggs and Vietnamese options. Shame fruit choice was limited to bananas everyday.

It is possible to exchange currency in the reception.

Room Tip: Elevator makes some noise so if room is next to it, you will hear it every time it passes/stops on t...

The Thien Thao hotel is a very nice hotel, with friendly staff, comfortable rooms, and a basic but good breakfast that is included in the room price. The breakfast is not a buffet, but every morning you can order something to be prepared, ranging from eggs to more Asian breakfast dishes. The rooms are equipped with very functional air conditioning (which you will need), a nice flatscreen tv, and a good bathroom. Although HCM is a loudy city, this did not bother me much in the hotel. Traffic noise is not disturbing. Rooms are also equipped with a free safe.

Regarding location, the Thien Thao hotel is located pretty well in my opinion. It took me a nice walk of about half an hour to the colonial city centre (Dong Khoi, with the old post building and the Notre Dame Cathedral). Note however that you can also very easily take a taxi for travelling through the city: there will always be a taxi in front of the hotel within 1 minute (if it is not already standing by), and a ride to any part of the city is - compared to American or European standards - extremely cheap. A trip to Donk Khoi for example costs between 50.000 and 60.000 dong, which is below 3 US$. Note that taxis are very comfortable (I mostly used VinaSun taxis). You will also notice that the majority of cars in HCM are taxis (I would not dare to drive my own car in that traffic).

The hotel also has a nice airport service: you can order an airport pick-up in advance for 19 US$, which is really comfortable when you arrive after a long flight. Somebody from the hotel will be waiting for you at the arrival hall.

Room Tip: I had a "Deluxe room", which is between superior and suite. Very comfortable rooms!

First time in Vietnam but I wasnt disappointed. From the minute I was welcomed through the door at about11pm till the time I left to travel home, the service was terrific and I would have no hesitations to recommend it to others coming to this wonderful city.
The rooms I had were more than adequate for what I paid, the shower was terrific, the a/c worked well and the cleanliness was superb. The breakfast were great too

As for the staff, what a well organised crew they were, bright, cheerful, and very knowledgable about where to go and what to do.

Overall, a very pleasant experience and will definately stay there again when I go back to HCMC. Thanks Kevin and thanks to ALL the staff.

I have stayed here a couple of times, and it's a good choice for those on a fairly tight budget. Rooms are clean, with a decent shower (although one did have a hole in the ceiling), and the beds are perfectly comfortable. Breakfast is good, with excellent warm baguettes and the eggs (or Asian breakfast) cooked to order. The safes are quite small but work - you may need to ask reception to reset them for you.

It's located a bit out of the centre on a busy suburban street with plenty of cafes and an excellent bakery nearby, but taxi drivers often have a little trouble finding it. There's usually a metered taxi waiting outside, and they'll take you to the airport with no difficulty. Without luggage, it's only 15 minutes walk from the centre (and yes, you can walk quite safely in the area), or the bus no.2 stops right outside heading in towards the centre. As some people have pointed out, the cinema across the road is noisy, but turns the sound off well before most people's bedtime - it may be an issue if you have children who sleep lightly.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the front will be quieter

Stayed room 402 for 2 nights 10th and 11th February Service was very good, secure parking for our scooter.Room was at the front, was fine but a bit on the small side. Shower was great, had a mini bar etc. A kettle was supplied with 2 tea bags but no cups.
There is a business across the road at both afternoons played extremly loud music from about 4pm.Annoying.
Breakfast was ok,choice of Vietnamese or eggs.Lots of places to eat close by.The road is very busy and is a two way street for scooters but only one way for cars, which really annoys taxi drivers, they have to go the long way and will try to charge you more. From the airport we paid 160000 for a voucher taxi from the airport., and because he was made to drive further refused to take our suitcases out of the car.
Because we have a scooter in HCMC have never walked far so cannot comment on how easy it would be to walk to the tourist areas.

We left HCMC for 4 days and before leaving booked the same room for when we returned for 2 nights 16th and 17th Feb. When we returned, they had only one room available, even though we booked, and the room was a windowless smaller room on floor one at the back, right near the cleaning staff's HQ, very noisy. We left and found another hotel ,returned and told them we wanted to check out.The desk guy wanted one nights payment, even though we did not get the room we had booked. When my wife, who is Vietnamese mentioned Trip Advisor,he quickly changed his mind and only charged 50% for the cancelled room.I just wonder if my wife did not speak Vietnamese what would have happened?
Be careful when making a booking,we made the booking face to face, internet bookings may be even worse. I was dissapointed that we were mucked around .

On behalf of Thien Thao Hotel, we apologize for the situation came to you. We were unlucky when made you unhappy, it is our fault. Normally we often ask guest which room they like, window, bathtub, front of view or back of house for their return. But this time, our staff was not enough to take care you about that, so they reserved room in the back of house without your expectation. We are pleased advise that our staffs were discount your room rate to 50% because he received his mistake. After that he tried arrange other room with window as your expect but you reserved other stay. We were unfortunate enough to lose your happiness and will do not reiterate this situation in future. Otherwise, we thank your comments very much and hope to see you again in Vietnam.

Best regards,

we stayed in the front suite of the hotel on the 7th floor and although the room is bright and clean the floors are disgusting ,the bathroom is large and the surfaces are clean but the lack of a clean carpet really does spoil the whole effect . we stayed here for 5 nights and found the location awful , if you want to walk into the city it is a good hour away , we are the walking type of people who like to mix with locals and see the "real vietnam " oh dear ... the pavements are the parking lots for all the motorbikes and as they use the space to also ride along , not the safest place in the world , a taxi from the hotel takes about 10 mins and costs about 50.000 dong . (taxi to airport is about 150.000 dong)
the smell of urine is also very strong in alot of places around the city

the breakfast is fine , although it would really help if the staff smiled , as with the rest of vietnam nobody smiles or welcomes you to anything .
there are a few good food options close to the hotel but they envolve crossing the streets so not so easy . i took the "mulan " granmother approach in the end , just dont look and keep walking .
the best coffee -in my opinion can be had by going to the junction of cao thang and 3 thang 2 , not to far away , the place is easy to spot as it has a large pot outside and the music is making the cups jump ! (28.000 dong per cup ) another good place for food is ao coffee on dien bien phu (only need to cross over the road and walk around the corner a bit ) the food selection and taste is very good and the coffee shake is wonderful .

On behalf of Thien Thao Hotel, we highly appreciated your reviews on here. We are planning to remove this carpet next month because last few months we had high occupancy. We knew that we could get problem if guest feel not happy with our three years carpet in room 701. But unfortunately we have no enough time to do it early than your arrival. We thought if we did not finish before your arrival we will get complaint from you. About Ho Chi Minh city street, it is crowed same with your opinions on here. Surely you could not walk properly even close or far from center. Almost world travelers felt tired if they tried to walk in this city, a lot of traffic, motorbike look like to cover you all the time. So the best way to reach somewhere you like, use a taxi. Otherwise, we saw you are happy with our hotel staffs, food and dining around, it is a target we would like to offer our lovely guests. We would like to make you happy, enjoyable in our hotel and explore specific lifestyle in this city which you never see around the world. Surely, if you come back to stay with us in the same room next time, you will see how we doing well than.
Hope to see you again in Vietnam.

Best regards
