I stayed in this hotel twice for periods of one week to 14 days at a time.
This is called by some a 'boutique hotel' but I'm not sure what that really
means beyond the prices are much higher if they use the name than if
they just call themselves a hotel.
I am a first-time traveller to Vietnam and discovered this property by
accident while I was walking on my first days in Saigon (HCMC).
The property had an elevator and was newly renovated, clean and as I had
a back room not facing the street, relatively quiet. I had taken the breakfast
included option and it was very worthwhile for me. I also made good use
of the in room mini-bar and WIFI and cable TV. Air con, hot water, and cable
TV all worked well during both of my extended stays.
This hotel is just off the main tourist streets but easily withing walking distance.
There is a school across the road which bangs a drum to start classes and if
you are a late and/or very light sleeper on the road side of the building, this
may be a caution. I only heard the drum while in the breakfast room or in the
lobby. It was no bother at all for me.
There are numerous return travellers from all parts of the world but largely
Australia, France and the USA. This speaks for itself. I myself am Canadian
and count myslef very fortunate to have found this place which is unadvertised
and what I would call a "hidden gem."
I have no hesitation in recommending this property and all the staff, who were
very well spoken and fluent in English, French and of course Vietnamese. Not
all staff spoke all languages but the Manager was fluent in all. He had no qualms
about refusing certain guests when he felt they might be more of a problem than
having the room sit empty for a night.
I will certainly plan to stay here again if they have availability and the standards
are as high as what they were on my trip. The prices are very much in line with
most other hotels in the neighbourhood, but if you can budget another $1-3 USD
per night I think that the newness and professionalism for this kind of property is
very much worth the extra.
In case their is any doubt about which hotel it is on
QUYNN Street #140 (near the corner of Bui Vien
and withing walking distance of the Ben Than Market
and bus loop (terminal).
If you are arriving by bus there is a city bus that connects
to Ben Than loop and can walk or scooter cab from there.
I myself used a cab from the airport.
email is XUAN_Mai_Hotel@yahoo.com and the phone
numbers on their business card are (848) 6291-2860
and 3838 6418.
The Manager's name is DUC but he is assisted by a very
English fluent assistant lady and a young man whose names
I have failed to note (Mary? and ???)
