“Great 3 star hotel in HCMC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

This hotel was apparently chosen as one of the best 3-star hotels in HCMC and I agree. it is a great hotel for a 3stars. The room was clean, breakfast was nice and had many selections, staff was friendly but limited English. We took a Junior suite room on the 7th floor. nice view and you can see Benh Tanh Market which is just outside of the hotel. Great Location. If you are looking for somewhere around 3 stars but little worried about the quality and cleanliness, take this hotel. You won't regret it. One thing I would like to point out was when we checked in, they took our passports. I requested them back because they didn't explain anything at first. At the end I found out they took passports as "Deposits". I told them to take my VISA card number and put a hold on some amount instead and they did.

My brother and I stayed in the Tan Hai Long Hotel and Spa in for ~5 days in late October 2011. We were pleased with the choice, and would have no problem staying there again. The rooms were clean and well serviced, and although the staff's English skills were variable they were always eager to help. Breakfast was okay - probably aimed more at Chinese rather than Western tourist - but had enough variety.

Probably the best positive was the hotel's location - there does not seem to be a hotel closer to the Ben Thahn market. At night, one of the night markets operated in side street next to the hotel, which made for a nightly detour to the markets on the way back to the hotel... The location otherwise seemed safe (albeit busy).

A large roundabout is in front of the markets and the hotel - if you take the airport shuttle bus in to the city, it will drop you off directly across the roundabout from the markets - very convenient, but slightly daunting to have to cross the roundabout for a first experience with HCM traffic.

Room Tip: Stay in the front part of the hotel - rooms are accessed using the lifts just behind the main lobby...

I will begin by stating that we stayed here for several nights on 2 occassions during our trip to Southeast Asia April 2012. We returned the 2nd time because it was in a decent location and reasonably clean.

With that said, I must provide a quick story to detail how the service can be poor at times.
Upon check-in on our return visit, we were given a room that was in horrible condition and non-functioning air conditioning. We had to go through several rooms until they said they were giving us a "free upgrade" to a decent room. That seemed great until our last night of the stay, they came to the room and told us that they over booked that room and forced us to pack our luggage and move into a down graded room.
The reception guy said that we should "work with him" on the matter and he would provide me with his personal email address for future bookings. I'm not sure what he would have done for us in the future (and he never did give me the email address).

The breakfast was fairly good and had plenty of options.

If you find a low enough price (I used Agoda and the price seemed to fluctuate greatly day by day), this hotel is ok. But anything over $50 USD/ night and I would look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Many of the rooms have poor air conditioning. Make sure to test it out prior to accepting the room.

Two families stayed at this hotel in April 2012 and while the hotel was well located and had large rooms to fit 4 people in each, the customer service, standards and devious actions of some staff left a very bitter taste in our mouths!

We had pre booked and paid for a Mekong tour prior to arriving in Vietnam. On the morning of the tour, the hotel staff were asked to call our tour company to confirm the address for pick up. Instead of doing so, a certain individual took it upon themselves to book us with a different tour company. This decision (and the fact that we hadn't paid for this specific tour) escalated to the point of us being threatened with being left on a remote island in the middle of the Mekong!

While the hotel never accepted responsibility for the actions of their staff member, they did provide some concessions to us, but not enough to cover the 'no show' fee we were charged from our original tour company.

The hotel needs to seriously improve their customer service standards and stop the devious actions of certain members of staff.

Second stay here, perfect location near markets, Vincom Centre and other great shops. We had a Junior Suite on the 4th floor B block, which had a view over the market and city. The room was spacious with a spa. Breakfast was ok, nothing special. Staff spoke english well and were helpful. Hightly recommend the Spa in the Hotel, my husband had the best foot and body massage by Minh, well worth asking for him. Would definately stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for B block, with a view

The Tan Hai Long hotel is conveniently located steps from Ben Tranh Market and shopping! Very clean and well priced as well.

The daily breakfast buffet had many choices from fresh fruit to dumplings, yogurt, breads and other items I did not know. But everything tasted so good.

2 very small elevators take you to your rooms
Rooms are a good size!
Beds are comfortable
We even has a spa tub in our bathroom

Love it for the location...if you buy too much in the market you can make a quick trip back to drop everything off!
