Do not be put off that the hotel is down an alley, off the noisy Pham Ngu Lao St. Every second motorbike constantly beeps the horn in HCMC so you will be glad of the peaceful location. You get a real sense of Saigon life as families live all around the hotel and you can see daily life carry on. Note there is no lift, so I would advise the older generation to request a room on the first two floors. The staff are friendly and helpful. I paid only $22 a night including free breakfast and internet. Son, the receptionist from 6am to 6pm was very helpful & arranged airport transfers for me ($10 each way) and called taxis with directions etc. So many of the taxi drivers do not speak a word of English. Best taxi company is Vina taxis on 38 111 111 as a lot more of their drivers speak English. Hong Phong Hotel is 1 minute walk from all the good restaurants and bars in District 1. Only complaint was that there was no English news channels (BBC, CNN) on the Satellite TV, otherwise I would highly recommend hotel.

We are a middle aged couple who have recenty returned from a holiday in Vietnam.We began our trip in Ho Chi Minh City, staying at Hoang Phong Hotel. We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel as the cost was so reasonable.We did not expect such wonderful value in a large city.
The staff were good, polite and helpful.Breakfast was good also.The location is excellent.

Our flight into Ho Chi Minh was delayed so although we had a reservation we were given a room on the 6th floor and this hotel does not have a lift. Others had their rooms given away as they did not arrive at estimated time.So it would be wise to let hotel know if you are delayed.

This lovely little hotel is set in the heart of the backpacking/tourist district, but tucked down a little alleyway off the main drag so away from the 24/7 noise of the main streets. It's obviously new but very well run. The room decor and facilities were lovely - what you might expect to find in a hotel costing many times the price. There's free internet in the reception area and a simple but good breakfast is provided free of charge. The staff were extremely helpful (they sorted out a SIM card for my mobile phone and other favours). Couldn't fault it.

This hotel is in an alley just off the very busy Pham Ngu Lao street in the 'backpacker' area. It is down an alley, so it's nice and quiet, but just off all the shops and restaurants. The room was very clean, mini fridge, air conditioner, TV, nice lobby, free internet and breakfast. Not on a busy alley, so a little hard to find. If you find the address on Pham Ngu Lao ( look for the western union sign), go down that alley and turn left at first turn. It is quite modern and nice. We had a room with double bed for $22 nite. We stayed in other places in the area for $20/nite, but they were nowhere as nice. IF you want cheaper, many people have ROOM signs in the alleys, these places can be as low as $8-10. They are often more basic, and don't include breakfast, internet etc.
