The IC is located in a lovely and serene environment, and like other reviewers have mentioned, it is indeed a breath of fresh air from the noisy Old Quarter in Hanoi.

Check-in/out was seamless, and the bellboy Thanh was friendly. I had a pool-facing room - nice and spacious, comfy bed, fantastic bathroom. Two gripes - no chairs in the balcony, and there was a lizard in my room squawking all night. Yes, lizards squawk, I attest to it. I did not however, request for a change of room since it was rather late, and I was already tucked in before the squawking began.

Service is great, as would be expected of the IC. Food experience.... sadly lacking. I had dinner at the Sunset Bar. Toughest pork ribs I've ever had. It was an exercise just trying to slice it. But it was a beautiful place to lounge and cocktail. Breakfast at the Cafe Du Lac saw me ordering "fresh orange juice" that could only be from a box. I would have thought at the IC "fresh orange juice" meant freshly squeezed orange juice. It makes one miss the Hilton breakfasts.

That said, the IC does provide a nice respite from the crowd, grime and noise of the Old Quarter, though the price and hype may make one think twice.

We had a lovely room with a lake view and balcony. It would have been nice if there was something on the balcony - a chair or two would have been really good.

We had the club facilities which were well worth the extra money with a better breakfast and amazing canapes in the evening.

The pool was great and we enjoyed being outside of the manic Hanoi.

The hotel staff were really good.

This was the nicest place I stayed on my month long tour through Vietnam. A friend and I paid nearly $275 for a Club Room. The hotel itself is absolutely perfect. The rooms are beautiful, decently sized, with wonderfully well appointed bathrooms. The hotel itself is built ON West Lake, rather than on the banks of West Lake. The pool, service, breakfast, and drinks service is excellent. They take wonderful care of you here. I recommend booking a Club Room as the happy hour is good fun with decent food.

Every negative comment I have is because of the price. Laundry (despite a small load), was incredibly expensive. West Lake is a bit far from Hoan Kiem Lake, where all the real action is, and is a lengthy 30K-40K VND taxi ride. The drinks are fantastic with a great selection, but are priced as they would be anywhere else in the world (including vietnamese beer which was many times more expensive than any other place I stayed). The internet was not free (which is similar to other 5 star locations I have stayed at around the world), which is unacceptable. We arrived from Sa Pa via Lao Cai train at 5AM and were told our room was not available and asked to wait 8 hours or pay a half day's rate, despite mentioning as much when we booked (they ultimately let us go into the room without charging us). There is no Spa service.

This is a great hotel and if you can afford it and don't mind being a bit far from all the action, then I would recommend it to you highly. West Lake is a nice location, but there is less going on here than around Hoan Kiem.

The map provided is not all that great, but an incredible one can be found at any of the Hanoi Elegances.

I stayed at Hanoi Elegance 4 ($45/night), which was amazing. It was not as well appointed or luxurious in any way, but for a fifth of the price was superior. I also stayed at Jasmine Hotel, located very close to Hoan Kiem, for around $30/night, and it is also a nice place despite being a bit loud in the morning. Remember, this is Vietnam, there is no need to book $200-$300 rooms to find something comfortable.

Ultimately, this is a great hotel that is absolutely beautifully appointed and built in a peerless surrounding. If you can afford it and don't mind paying through the teeth, I highly recommend you stay here.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my one night stay at this hotel. The standard is high compared to Vietnamese other hotels in Hanoi and HCMC.

I was disappointed by the concierge as they seemed very generic in attending to requests.

I loved the business lounge and though service is good overall.

The hotel should consider including a spa as it's almost a standard facility in Asia let alone Vietnam.

Hit - Away from town. Great to get away from the honking after a day in town. Food is good, tranquail. Rooms face the lake. Peaceful.
Miss - Service standards. The conceige was irritanted with me asking for directions, whilst she seems alright with caucasian guests. A bell hop was visitably irritated when I asked when the taxi will arrive... "we have called". That said, most of the service staff made a good impression. Slamming doors from your neighbours room, I was woken up at 6 am and could not go back to sleep because my neighbours (kids) keep opening and closing doors to go to their parents' rooms! Somehow, the sound of closing door is rather loud.
