“Authentic Italian in the heart of Hanoi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013 via mobile

I went to Mediterraneo for an early dinner. It was nice to catch up with Leonardo, the owner, whom I met 15 years ago when I was living in Vietnam. On his advice I ordered Parma prosciutto and mozzarella as entree. The mozzarella is produced on premises! It tastes fresh in a way that you wouldn't expect so far away from Italy. The prosciutto is imported directly from Italy, a good quality Parma. As a main I ordered one of the specials: spaghetti chitarra with prawns and pecorino. The pasta was home made and perfectly cooked al dente. I discovered that prawns and aged goat cheese marry very well, producing a savoury, intriguing flavour. A couple more prawns would have been nice but for $10 you can't complain. Then the dessert: pannacotta with chocolate leaves and raspberry coulis. Highly recommended. The taste and presentation of this dessert was smashing. The chocolate leaves were well tempered and made from a good quality dark chocolate. The pannacotta was well set, smooth and delicate. A couple of glasses of chilled prosecco complemented my most enjoyable dinner.

“Best Italian food in Hanoi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

I have been surprised to read some of the less positive reviews of this place online. Loving Italian food I have been eating in Mediterraneo for the last 5 years as in all other Italian restaurants. Besides a brief spell about 18 months ago I always rated this place as the best in Hanoi. Great original Italian cuisine (not always appreciated by locals), wonderful wines and a lovely place. Nothing better than having a dinner for two on the balcony, enjoying the view of the street life below and the taste of proper Italian food. Being addicted to Penne Arrabiata, I try this dish in every restaurant that serves it. Having eaten it on every continent, my favorite used to be in Brussels. Since the cook there left, surprisingly enough it is now here in Hanoi at Mediterraneo. I admit, nothing more subjective than taste, but nevertheless. Love it. Herman

“The cockroach experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

Food is average and cleanliness of the place is really poor. We were sitting on second floor and we could see mold in every corner. When we first sat down at the table a big cockroach was on the wall, then during the dinner it decided to jump on my knees! Gross! I've tried better other Italian restaurant in Hanoi with better atmosphere and better food.
