“Good for Hanoi, get an upper floor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

I just spent 8 nights at this hotel on a work trip - i do ag development work and travel frequently to Asia and I have learned to lower expectations when it comes to hotels. i have to say that this place exceeded my expectations. My in-country colleague booked this for me and I was a bit worried after reading some of the reviews done by others. I guess the best summary comment I can provide is that I plan on staying here next time- my room was clean, semi-modern bathroom, comfortable bed, but typical Asian hardness, nice duvet, refrigerator in room, okay Internet (cuts out - more late night, walking distance to Old Quarter and places to eat etc., basic fitness room- nice weights, one treadmill, nice breakfast, affordable laundry service and very friendly staff. The bad- the rooms on the front are noisy- even on the 9th floor! (I had 901) and I could hear the traffic, but it seems all of the moderate-priced hotel are noisy in Vietnam, the hot water ran out quickly so short showers and the elevator is slow- I gave up on it lots an walked to 9th floor... I guess all of those negatives are quite common in the hotels I have stayed at in SE Asia, sometimes even in the 4& 5 star international chains. This place is so much better than others in it's same price range though, particularly those right in the heart of the Old Quarter. This is my new Hanoi hotel and I would recommend it but as the other reviewers suggest get a room as high as possible!! On a funny note, there is a local aerobics class run in the park in front of the hotel on some nights quite late- so cute!! One drawback was no pool, but Hanoi is much too cold in the winter for an outside pool anyway!

Room Tip: Get one above 7th floor and corner rooms are nicer! 901 is where I stayed.

Firstly the hotel does offer a feedback form which unfortunately I did not have time to fill in so apologies to them for airing my views on here. The hotel is nice and the room was clean, modern and contemporary. The staff had laid out rose petals in a heart shape on the bed and in water in the sink as it was our honeymoon - a nice touch. Location near the old quarter was good. However whilst sleeping was ok on the 4th floor after 11.30ish due to the double glazing the bathroom was single glazed and the traffic was very loud - not a relaxing bath. The worst part was the electrics. There must have been 15 light switches but only 5 seemed to operate - I have no idea what the others were for. One was sticky and cracked and felt unsafe and one in the bathroom failed to come on until it had fizzed, sparked and emitted smoke - I left it on for the next 12 hrs for fear of electrocution if I turned it off. Breakfast was pretty good and varied with eggs cooked to order and the staff friendly and helpful - due to our hectic schedule and brief stay we didn't have time to discuss the faults with the staff - so I cannot comment on how they would've been dealt with.

Room Tip: The higher the better - further from the street and better views. The rear has a poorer view but is...

We arrived very early with our family of 4 after a 12 hours flight. Staff was expecting us, luggage was stored and we were told to wait two hours for our room. We decided to go to the center (south), but went completely the opposite way (north). (Now I remember the IPhone has a compass...). We had breakfast with nems and beer in a small restaurant around the corner (with a large Fanny sign). best nems we had. We went back to the hotel. At 10am our rooms (604 and 605) were ready: one double, one twin, as requested. We slept for an hour = 604 has no window, so nice and quiet, 605 is on the back with double windows. There is no noise from the street, but some in the corridors. Next day breakfast on 11th floor was good. Vietnamese, eggs and French breakfast. Helpful staff. Rooms have free coffee, free wifi, free HBO movie channel. We made a 2 day trip to Halong bay, luggage was stored. When we got back the luggage the tip was not accepted (0.5 USD), as too low. We found later it is better to give nothing or at least a dollar. New room 706 is similar to 605 on the back.
Location is near the market, but it is difficult to cross the street when you are new in Vietnam. Of course, later you just walk on the street without looking: works much better!
In conclusion, an hotel I recommend.

Room Tip: rooms ending on 4 have no window (except in bathroom); ending with 5 and 6 are on the back. 5 rooms...

The good: The room was clean and tidy, king single beds, good breakfast, good location, polite helpful staff, close to the major attractions and the old quarter.
The bad: very noisy spot, beds were extremely hard, bathroom was tired.

Room Tip: Get one facing away from the street, higher the better.

On arrival we were greeted by the lovely staff. Our bags were taken to the room, which was lovely.

Great view, beautiful sparkly bath!! We were front facing & yes we arrived after a long flight thinking we couldn't sleep, but the double glazing & jetlag was enough.

The front desk were so helpful, guiding us with restaurants, taxis, our bags.

Rooms were clean. Wifi available in the room. Breakfast had a good selection.

Great location, near to old quarter, night market (Fri-Sun), sword lake. Park opposite is great, check out the morning/evening work out classes! They're fab! :)

We spent 3 nights at the Anise hotel during our first visit toVietnam.

Location is very good, you can walk to Ho Chi Minh compound, and the lake (in the opposite direction) in about 15 minutes.

Breakfast was not bad, usual things, although given the way the tables are predominantly grouped in fours there isn't enough for everyone and we saw some people come in and leave again.

There is a small cafe / bar on the ground floor (reception is on the second) which looked nice but, never had anyone in it on any of the occasions we arrived or left the hotel.

We were a little disappointed by the overall quality though. It is hard to benchmark against others; however, these are our honest observations. The air conditioning didn't work work on the first night we arrived. We phoned down stairs and our only options were to stay where we were or be downgraded. We stayed on the proviso they would fix the air conditioning during the next day while we were out. When we got back it still didn't work. They eventually got it going after I went down to reception; it seemed that our air conditioning was contingent on all other on our floor as the maintenance guy and the bell boy went into all of the other rooms to fiddle with their control panels!?

The room was dusty, especially in the places where a little attention makes a whole lot of difference - like curtain poles, and the bed headboard.

The bed was incredibly hard! We usually do not moan as you will never get a perfect mattress like you have at home - here it was like sleeping on wood!

If we went again we would have to balance the location, price and niggles as to where we stay.

...avoid the street facing rooms if you just landed, coming from far away and in need of sleep! We stayed here for 3 nights and asked for another room after the first night. No double glazing in this particular room strangely (the second one had it) and traffic like Rome, but supercharged! Having said that, the room itself, no 901 was lovely, tastefully decorated, very clean, and we would have loved to stay there but the noise just made it impossible. Once done with moving to the other room, 706, equally lovely if slightly smaller, we found the hotel to be good, the staff was professional and friendly and the breakfast was also another plus. The hotel is well situated and ideal to explore downtown Hanoi, if you survive crossing the road leading there that is! The bar downstairs is ideal for a nightcap and offers free wifi, as does the lobby on first floor.
