“ok for a short stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

We arrived in the late evening so didnt intend exploring when we got there, the room allocated was a twin "deluxe" with a small window not much of a view and compact i was disappointed to be honest as it was on the 10th floor we got woken at 6 by the restaurant noise which was on the 11th floor just above us as a result we complained about it and the nice receptionist apologised and upgraded us to a front facing room which she said was quiet
This room was much nicer, bigger and had a view of the park but i wondered due to other reviews if it would be quiet! it wasnt due to the early morning exercise music in the park at 6! as a result we had to use earplugs to get some sleep but the room was much nicer
the breakfast was nice with good views from the restaurant,we also had snacks downstairs in the bar which were also very good,we found the staff to be friendly and helpful, the traffic in Hanoi is crazy the hotel is 15 minutes from sword lake which we enjoyed going to but just getting there is daunting! the old quarter is very interesting just wondering around, but we ate mostly around the lake area where there was a good selection with good views overlooking the lake.
we did have one problem though we had booked transfers from the hotel and requested transfers both ways and thought the price quoted was for both ways as the hotel stated this was "all in " and they would add it to our bil!l on arrival at the airport after our stay we faced an angry taxi driver demanding to be paid he couldnt understand when we said he'd been paid by the hotel? luckily a passer by translated for us and rang the hotel who said we had just paid for one way! by chance we had enough dollars and dong to pay him and he was happy enough
with hindsight we did think $20 was good value but it was our first trip to hanoi! it was the "all in" bit that confused things so we think the hotel should make this clearer to avoid it happening again but it did cause us some unecessary stress!

Room Tip: resataurant noise can be heard on the 10th floor

Anise hotel has a good location to stay in Hanoi if you have time to explore the old quarter. It's just about 15 minutes to walk from the hotel to Sword Lake - center of the city. The disadvantage of the hotel is they dont have a parking lot for motobike so when we hired a bike we find it difficult to find a place to leave a bike when we stayed overnight at Anise hotel.

We have just returned from Vietnam on honeymoon and stayed here. It looks quite small from the outside but the rooms are spacious and modern - we loved the sparkly bath!! We had previously read reviews about the noise when staying at the front of the hotel however we had no issues at all and Hanoi is a noisey place after all. Breakfast was good and the service good - they looked after our bags during our trip to Halong Bay. When we returned we had a room with a balcony which was nice. We enjoyed the location as we ate in the Old Quarter each night however its about a 15 minute walk to the lake area.

I stayed at the Anise Hotel in October 2012. I cannot praise the reception staff more highly. They went out of their way to assist me with flight bookings and contacting the bank when I stupidly left my atm card in the machine acroos the road. They contacted the bank and within 15 mins I had my card back in my hand. Their customer service is outstanding. This includes the doorman and porters. The rooms were excellent very clean. Breakfast was fine in the morning but lunch and dinner the food was very ordinary so I ate out most of the time.

I would recommend the Anisie to anyone staying in Hanoi

My husband and I stayed at the Anise in Sept 2012 whilst on a tour of Vietnam so all of our tour group stayed as well. Our room was clean and modern and huge ! We had a great view of the park in the front so able to watch all the early morning aerobics and Tai Chi. The breakfast was abundant but like all of the hotels we stayed at ( 9 hotels for this holiday) we found it strange that most of the HOT food wasnt hot, eg; bacon and pancakes sit under a heat lamp but arent hot. Maybe this is an Asian thing but it was the same through out Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. ( On a side note have found the buffet brekkys Through out Bali to be hot ) It was still edible and plenty of other things to have and all made lovely fresh hot omelettes so spoilt for choice. I thought the location for great but this was our first trip to Hanoi so not an expert there. Would have liked a little more time to explor the old Quarter , had a fascinating electric car ride thru it but I think a foot trip is needed as well. Went to the Water Puppet Show, was interesting but if you dont get a good seat people tend to put their cameras up in the air to get shots ( oh you need to pay up front first if you want to take photos inside, but its so dark I dont think I would bother....buy a postcard !)
Back to Anise.....great staff and a beautiful room and handy location to it all. No complaints except needed more time to see all the sights ! Crossing the road takes a long time in itself!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel facing the street. Windows are doubled glazed so no problem...

Outstanding, friendly service. On our first morning, after a lovely buffet breakfast, a staff member took us to a street vendor selling sim cards, and helped set up our phones. Another staff member arranged for a strap on our backpack to be repaired, within an hour, for $1. It was not a problem to leave our bags there whilst we spent 4 nights up at Sapa. On our return at 5am, we were able to access our bags, shower in a downstairs bathroom, repack our bags and leave them again whilst we went overnight to Halong Bay. Rooms were clean, fresh and modern. The only problem with the location is having to cross the road to get to the Old Quarter, but once mastered, it is not a problem. Will definitely stay there when we return. Downstairs cafe is great for snacks, and happy hour drinks.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the park ( eg 401, 501, 601,)are bigger with luxurious bathrooms, but traffic nois...

We stayed twice in The Anise, the staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was good and the food in the restaurant cooked to order and value for money. The hotel was located in the old quarter and Vietnam culture in abundance. Crossing the road is alarming!!!!
