“Good value, good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

We trudged around the old quarter for an hour or more looking for a hotel that didn't charge $15-$20 for a room that had mold on the walls and smelled damp and unclean. We found a better room here for cheaper than the other hotels (at $14) which was clean but quite small, with the promise of being moved to a larger, better room the following night. The room they moved us to was much larger and much more pleasant with large doors on to a balcony but cost slightly more expensive at $17. The staff here were very attentive and helpful, they offered to sell us a tour to Ha Long Bay but they were not pushy or irritatingly persistent. Also the buffet breakfast that was included in the price was good and plentiful.

the location is very good, you just step outside of your room and you are in the middle of the old quarter. Nevertheless it is located in a very quiet area, so you don't hear any noises. For those room rates you can't expect a 5 star luxury accommodation, but it is best value for this little money you spend. It is a perfect spot for backpackers who are looking for a clean and nice place to stay in the middle of the city. Almost everything is within walking distance and the staff is so super friendly ! My bag got stolen during my stay (not in the hotel, in a restaurant !! ) and the hotel staff was soo friendly and helpful. They went with me to the policestation and were very helpful. The breakfast was ok. But as I said, you don't pay for luxury. It is clean and perfectly located, there is free wifi throughout the entire hotel and free breakfast.

Room Tip: we had a room on the 4th floor, we had just a tiny little window with a bad view, but as we were in...

Right in the Old Quarter, near the fresh markets which I love wandering through. Friendly staff who were always wanting to help, clean room with a bath! A good basic breakfast, with no limit on how much you eat, and the local bustle right outside your door. The number 17 bus to the airport is not far away, so if you're on a tight budget, it is great. We had a back room and had very little noise.

This hotel is located beside the old city gate, which is more than 200 years old. And only 10 minutes to go to Long Bien Bridge, about 20 minutes to go to Hoan Kiem Lake. Many food stalls are in walking distance.

The staffs are very friendly. But the bed is not comfortable, not flat. I stay here for 5 nights, but they didn't change the bedsheet for you, and sometimes didn't empty garbage can.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back side may be quieter.

We stayed here in October 2012 and for a cheap hotel in the heart of Hanoi, it was pretty standard. The room we stayed in was a bit shabby and not like the professional photos (!) but it was fine for a place to sleep and have a shower, and the reception staff were so sweet and helpful and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The location is pretty amazing, right in the old town of Hanoi, really easy to get to everywhere you want to visit. We also went on the Halong Bay trip organised by the hotel and it was spot on for what we wanted, we did the 3 days 2 nights trip and I'd recommend it. The minibus that takes you to and from Halong Bay will likely be absolutely jam packed but that's about standard for most trips in that price range I think, and at least it had air con. All in all we had no complaints staying here.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

We stayed one night at Senses then travelled to Ha Long and returned for a further 5 nights. For both stays we had booked a city view suite on Agoda as I really wanted a balcony, in room safe and coffee making facilities. The first stay we were given a key to a room with none of these things. When I returned to reception the receptionist was (i believe genuinely) surprised that the room did not have a balcony. He then offered me a different room that was a city view but still no balcony. When I asked why we couldn't have the room type we had booked and paid for he said there was a deluxe room with baclony but the hot water had broken down. Although this was one category below what we had booked and didn't have hot water we agreed to take it for that night with the promise that we would have the correct room when we returned.
In the deluxe room the baclony was tiny (standing room only) and the balcony door did not close properly. There was a cockroach in the shower in the morning but I managed to scare him off with the cold water. This room was on the 3rd floor and very noisy in the morning (roosters, bike horns and loudspeakers) but if the balcony door could be properly shut it may not have been too bad.
When we returned we were given a room on the 5th floor and I assume this was actually the suite we day booked. Because the room was higher the noise wasn't quite so bad. The balcony door would almost close (but not lock), and the main door lock was a nightmare and in desparate need of repair. The room wasn't very large but the balcony was a good size with 2 chairs and a small table which was nice. The bed was quite hard and the pillows were terrible. Housekeeping seemed to do a good job as the room and linen was clean. No coffee making facilities or safe were provided though contracry to the room description.
We had the included breakfast one day and it was very unappetising. Fried eggs that had been sitting there a long time, orange cordial, 2 minute noodles, low quality coffee. After this we just skipped breakfast and I bought my coffee and juice at a cafe just outside the hotel.
The saving grace of the hotel were the staff. All were friendly, welcoming and tried to be helpful. Although the first receptionist seemed to be lacking in knowledge (or scared to deal with a complaint head-on) all including him were good throughout our stay. Booking tickets for the water puppet theatre, giving directions and advice and language lessons. I hope the owners improve the quality of the product as the staff were great and the location was excellent.

We stayed at Senses for 3 nights. I think it was great value for money. The staff are always extremely friendly and helpful. If your "lucky" enough to get a room facing the road you will have to deal with all the beeping, roosters and public announcements. The flashing neon lights from the sign out the front will certainly brighten up your room throughout the night. There are plenty of rooms not facing the road so u might be safe. Breakfast is fairly basic but does the job. Nothing like carb loading in the mornings. Other than a bit of noise the only complaint I would have is the shower, a shower curtain and a bit of an adjustment on the angle of the shower rose would come in handy. After all it is a hand held one and its exactly what u have to do.
