Although this hotel could use a makeover (like all budget places in Hanoi), it's good value for your money. The rooms are clean and staff are extremely helpful. It's nestled in the Old Quarter, so it can get a bit noisy at night if you get a room facing the street, which is what we did (because it was the 'deluxe' room).
You basically get what you pay for here: clean basics without the frills and good service. Staff did not try to pressure us into tours (although they did offer several options), and were great with arranging taxis to and from the airport, and wherever else we wanted to go.
I was ill for a couple of days and they showed care and concern for me, offering me medicine and giving me their own large thermos of hot water and ginger tea. They escorted my husband to the drugstore late at night to buy a few things for me. Also, they invited him to have dinner and drinks in their lobby while I was laid up. Very nice, genuine people.
If you are on a budget but demand cleanliness and good service, this is a great choice.
