We stayed here as a group of 3 females, and had a great experience.
The reception staff (especially the lady) were very helpful, explaining many things to us in the area and making recommendations when we asked for it.
Our room was pretty huge (and when they couldnt provide a late checkout we were moved into a smaller room for the last day). However, the rooms are quite noisy as there is a street just below- not good if you are a light sleeper. The bathroom had no curtain for the shower so almost impossible to shower without drenching the entire bathroom, and the other problem was a leaking sink which had a tendancy to flood the bathroom. (this was mentioned to hotel staff who seemed to react like they knew and weren't really concerned about it).
The receptionist made a couple of good restaurant recommendations, although be careful- ensure she writes down the name of the restaurant for you- as where she marks on the map is not entirely accurate 9 times out of 10. Its easier to go to the area and ask people for directions (or google it once you have the name).

The breakfast was limited- fried eggs and toast are ok for 1 day but get a little boring after a couple!

The ''in house'' travel agent booked us a trip to Halong Bay. In hindsight we could probably have gotten a better deal elsewhere, we were picked up in the morning to be taken to a travel agency, to wait. And then walked to the bus area, to wait. A lot of wasted time before even leaving Hanoi. We were glad to have packed our own snacks for the journey as the food on the boat was really not great. We are very open minded and will try local food, but it really wasn't anything you wanted to eat! The return bus back to Hanoi was a tiny maybe 15 seater minibus with a driver in a rush- meaning every single bump and pothole (and there are many) on the way, were felt by all- not a comfortable journey! The other downside was stopping in a very pricey tourist shop on the way for a toilet stop- obviously making commission somewhere.

Overall we had a good stay, helpful staff, and I would probably stay there again if I returned to Hanoi. But, I wouldn't book any trips with their travel agent.

This was our favourite place we stayed in Vietnam because of one reason - the staff! They were so friendly and helpful. They helped us with so many things: gave us recommendations on where to eat, took care of our laundry, brought us an extra blanket when we asked for it, booked airport transfers, walked me to the ATM when i asked where it was, and booked tours for us to the north and to halong bay. They also took care of our extra luggage while we went on the tours. There were different people working at different times of the day and every single one of them was so approachable with friendly smiles and greetings. One big tip is to make sure you book a good room. We stayed in a cheap private room the first night and it was quite small and smelled like damp. It also had no way to let natural light in to the room. We upgraded the other two nights and the room we were given was beautiful and very large. Breakfast was really good. I would stay here again.

Stayed here for a few nights with a friend. We stayed in a dorm which has a bathroom that was reeking of smell even after such issue was put forward to the staff. Some of the staff were very unfriendly and unhelpful. They never greeted the guests and was only fixated on a computer game which also had the volume turned up. When asked what's the most cost effective way to get to the airport, they became very impatient and even raised her voice at me. Very disappointed in this kind of services for a hotel level accomodation. Not recommended if you require helpful staff.

We stayed at the Bodega Hotel for 5 nights, and didn't regret it. The staff was really amazing, super helpful and spoke excellent English (except for the guys working the breakfast buffet...they were really nice but didn't speak English). Our room was huge, cost $20 US/night, and was totally worth it. Some things to consider before staying here, however. (1) This hotel also doubles as a hostel, so ask for a private room. Also, because it is a hostel, the furniture is sturdy but well worn, the tv is a mid-90s antique (has 3 English channels: HBO; HBO 2 and Discover), and the shower doesn't have a curtain and is right next to the toilet. (2) The Bodega is a little further away from the main tourist areas in old-town (about a 15-20 minute walk) and the nearest restaurant is a couple of streets away. However, if you don't mind the walk, it's also a little bit quieter than some of the other hotels. (3) Remember you are not paying a lot for the room; there are hotels which are decorated much nicer and have better amenities, but they will also cost about two times as much. (4) There is no elevator, and the stairs are pretty steep. (5) The beer in the refrigerator costs 25,000 dong/can; the water is 10k dong. It is cheaper to buy your refreshments at the convenience store right next door (but be aware the store closes at 10pm, so plan ahead). (6) The breakfast is complimentary, but we only ate it twice: fried eggs, rice, ramen noodles, sliced ham, tomatoes, cucumbers, toast, watermelon, and coffee/tea. It wasn't great, but in the morning it's the only food around. (7) They do offer a laundry service, at 50k dong/kilo. We used it and it was a one day turnaround. Also, they didn't ruin anything.

We really liked it, it fit our needs perfectly. If you're on a budget, or don't want to spend very much this is a great place. You can also buy tour packages in the lobby, which is also convenient.

Room Tip: Ask for a window. Also, bring an extension cord for your computer as the outlets aren't really...

I've just been in this hotel and I really recommend because of the friendly staff: you feel like you're home! Great tips for tours also. We booked a 4nights/3days in Sapa with them and everithing was amazing.
Best choice ever :)
