1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

We just didn't have a room in the next door place
so they referred us there. at the moment we enter the room looked basic like in the other place so we didn't mind for one night.
the girls who run this place were very unfriendly, and demanded the payment on the spot.
We paid and later found that - ants are running on the floor, the shower/toilet door doesn't close so all in all we were quite annoyed and discussed from the room.
We sat most of the time at the hotel next door- at least the people were nicer and helpful.

We had a small double room here (8$/day) for 4 days and we can't complain. The location is between the Old Quarter and the Train Station in a narrow, silent streat, directly placed next to the similar Thu Giang Hostel and some more.
Altough we had to banish a cockroach one morning out of the bathroom (yes, it was a bit disgusting!!!) the room was clean, the staff friendly and their English vocabular sufficient. We could also arrange laundry. We were happy we found a place for that price in Hanoi.

Very cheap and very cheerful staff. English limited but enough to get you checked in, and you are in Vietnam after all. Rooms were very basic, and a little hot. but at this price you can't complain. In a very quiet alley so no problems there

this hotel is small but the rooms are spacious they have big comfortable beds and big wardrobes. we had a fridge and a tv with many channels so it was great value. We also had hot water that always worked. we had a really enjoyable stay, the rooms were spotlessly clean and they cleaned them for you every day. they offered a cheap and good breakfast. The staff were really friendly despite the fact they didnt speak much english.

We did stay at North Hotel for 3 nights. We checked the room at Thu Giang GuestHouse(neighbour),it was terrible. We were very tired ,We came to North Hotel. The room was small. But We were sweating. We decided staying here. They did not speaking good English sothat They did not pushing Us much like Thu Giang guesthouse(trying to sell things even we were very tired). We stayed in the room, took shower and slept until the next morning. We came out for breakfast because it was much more clean, delicious and much cheaper.Everything in the hotel is more than double price .We had been traveled for 6 months in Asia.We kept the thing in the room and remember everything .Our money left under the bed.Even they cleaned up the room, they also could not find it.
When We came back We count and We lost 500 USD.We came down and the staff who tried being friendly and We also talked about the things in Our room lost but they irgnore and tried to talk another things. We tried to stay one night moresmall, smelly, old funitures)(Even our room was to let them feel being regret and gave us back. But they did not care and ignore everything. We knew We could not get it back.We had a lesson. We should not stay in the GuestHouse, should not stay i the hotel. It is safer.

We liked the young lady who we think is the owner but for $12 the room was a little small, the air con unit was a little small too, especially because there were lots of gaps around the windows and inbetween the wall and the air con unit, some blocked up with polystyrene, it was quite hot at night!

I initially liked this place and thought I'd stay a while, but problems kept coming up.

After having my camera stolen in Hanoi earlier that day I was feeling very security conscious. This hotel has a rule that you have to leave your key with them when you leave the hotel, which is a typical rule - all hotels seem to do that here). What isn't typical was where they kept the keys. They were left on the counter in reach of everyone in the lobby, and only a few feet from the front door. When asked to leave my key with them I explained why I didnt want to, and the girl told me they were safe. She said she was always in the lobby keeping an eye on them. Another guest in the lobby agreed with me that they didn't have a very secure system. The girl got upset and ran out of the hotel and across the street. Funny, didn't she just tell us she would be guarding the keys? Yet she left the lobby empty just seconds later.

Before I checked in I asked if it was a quiet place, and the lady who runs the place told me it was. Imagine my dismay when I heard loud hammering at 11:30 at night from next door. Eventually the noise stopped, but then it started again at 7:30am. There was construction going on. I told the lady how unhappy I was about this, and how it wasn't a quiet room after all. She told me that since it was morning people wanted to be up and explore the city anyway. She also didn't believe me about the construction work going on at 11:30. She smiled a lot and was friendly, but I feel she lied from the beginning and had very weak reasoning. What kind of hospitality is it to suggest that your guests have no business sleeping after 7:30am?

Hard to recommend this hotel based on the fact I was lied to and based on the security issues.
