“great CHEAP option!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Very happy with my stay at Street Backpackers. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable and I heard great things about the tours booked with them (although i didn't get a chance to try them out). The location was great - right by the lake with lots of great street food, coffee and pho nearby. Good wifi, strong aircon, personal lockers, simple but good free breakfast, free beer 8-9 pm and SO CHEAP. 4 bucks a night for it all. Best value hostel I have ever stayed at..anywhere.
The only downside that there is no common area so a social atmosphere is definitely lacking. They try their best to make the foyer cozy but it just doesn't cut it. Would definitely stay here again.

We arrived in Hanoi from Nanning, China by bus, and it seemed impossible to find out where we would be dropped-off. So with Leo, from the hostel, we arranged a pick-up service. We called him to say where we were exactly, but it was quite far from the hostel, so he asked us to take a taxi and he would pay. That was really nice from him as we didn't have any Vietnamese Dongs, and it was almost 100,000 VND.
We were nicely welcomed by him, his awesome wife, their cute little 3 year old boy and the cleaning girl. I personally was a little bit shocked by their friendliness (it was my first time in Vietnam).
The lobby (+ kitchen +toilets +TV +computer +lounge) is pretty small but that makes good social interaction. There are 2 dorms and 2 bathrooms (+toilets) upstairs, one on each floor. Each dorm has 10 beds but they are arranged differently. We were on the 3rd floor and the layout seemed better, more spacious. There is also a small balcony where you can dry your clothes and towel. The bathrooms are pretty new and clean, the aircon works perfectly, beds are nice and firm. The free breakfast is decent, one egg + Vietnamese bread + coffee or tea, but they will cook it for you even at 6 AM.
Leo's wife, is very organised, handles and remembers everything, at the same time, takes care of their little boy who isn't afraid of anyone. She helped us book a 2 day trip to Halong Bay, motorbikes and a bus to Hue. She also took care of our laundry which came back perfectly clean and dry the next day. She also called and booked a hostel in Hue for us, and didn't make us pay the call.
The free beer was from 7.30 to 8.30, it is in a huge plastic bottle. We had some very good time and met all sorts of travellers.
We ended up staying there longer than we planned but it was very enjoyable to stay with them.
