“Friendliest hotel in Vietnam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2014

This has been the nicest hotel we have stayed in during our one month in Vietnam. Great location in the old quarter; most things you can walk to, clean, nice breakfast, free tea and coffee all day, separate shower cubicle (a real treat in Vietnam) and all of the staff are super friendly and helpful. For example, we saw a North Face coat we liked and Tien went out spoke Vietnamese to the owner and and got a 10% discount on the price. They also booked us a great trip to Ha Long.

From the moment we arrived at 5 am off the night train to the late checkout free of charge due to our evening flight, the staff at this hotel made us feel at home going out of their way to be sure we were comfortable. The room was lovely with a comfy bed, satellite television and excellent hot shower! The complimentary breakfast is the best we have had in 7 months of travel with fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, meat along with made to order eggs, pancakes and Vietnamese soup. River, Heart and the rest of the staff were very helpful with suggestions of things to do around town. Although the hotel has a tour desk, they never tried to sell us one....a welcome change in a competitive tourist industry. The location is excellent! Walking distance to many attractions.
If you want to treat yourself to a clean comfortable room without breaking the bank, this is your spot.

On arriving at the hotel, we were treated by the most friendly staff. They were joking, and accommodating, offering refreshments. They gave us a great map of thee city and asked what we wanted to do, while giving us recommendations for practical needs, like supermarkets, good bars, and cheap tasty food. They were able to beat the price on the tours we were offered, as well as book out transport. The rooms were cleaned daily and all out valuables we're safe. The quality of the rooms is high and the breakfast was definitely a highlight. The only complaint I would have was noise levels of construction and traffic, but this is not to do with the hotel. Hanoi is a bushy capital and any where you stay will be noises starting from 8am or 9am until midnight. Or a bit later. I would definitely recommend Tu Linh 2 and stay here again.

We were really impressed with our stay here. The staff are outstanding, welcoming you by name when you return to the hotel. In the mornings they check how you slept and if there are any issues they are dealt with. The rooms are clean, well appointed and have everything you need. Nothing is too much trouble we arrived very early in the morning our room was available so we could move in, we left late in the evening and we were offered showers etc after we checked out. There is more on our blog about Hanoi and the hotel www.leggingit.com.au

You'll probably hear this again and again, but the staff stand out at this place. Everyone (River, Heart, Ming, etc) was extremely friendly, especially at breakfast - you'll know what I mean when you stay there (if you're an introvert, this very gregarious approach to communication might be scary, but it is all sincere).

On the more practical aspects: the location is wonderful and there are plenty of restaurants in the area and the market/lake are only a few blocks away. The New Day Restaurant, which was recommended by the hotel the first night, turned out to be the place we went every day during our rainy 5-night stay - great food at good prices and also friendly service.

The room we had was the smallest, but it was fine for us with a reasonably comfortable bed (it has a heating pad which could be useful if it gets cold), fridge, and large TV. The highlight of the room was the shower - one of the best we've had in Vietnam with fantastic water pressure and plenty of hot water and (gasp) a shower curtain.

Breakfast consisted of a cold buffet with bread and bread rolls, cold meats, fruit, coffee and tea, PLUS you get to order one hot item on their menu (eggs done a variety of ways, crepes, or soup noodles with beef or chicken). Simple, but effective, given there are plenty of great places to eat in Hanoi. If they want to improve, it might be nice to have a toaster or toaster oven at the breakfast buffet to toast the bread slices.

All in all, for 25 USD a night with breakfast included, it was great quality. We would have paid this for the shower alone, but the staff, location, room quality and breakfast made this a great deal all around. Wifi worked reasonably well too (there were several wifi signals in the building, and although the other two did not work, there was one signal that worked the entire time we stayed).

Room Tip: The suites on the top two floors are larger, and you might want to ask for one not facing the street...
