“A week in Ha Noi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

We spent a week at the Hanoi Old Town Hotel. Right in the heart of the Old Quarter, but a sanctuary from the frenzy just outside the door. The staff was very helpful. Damien, the English owner, and his Vietnamese girlfriend helped us select a great cruise of Halong Bay. A very good value for the price!

Room Tip: Rooms in the back, off the street, are quieter.

This Hotel is perfect for those wishing to spend a few days savouring the delights of Hanoi's Old Quarter. Only a 5 minute walk takes you to the central lake from where you can bascially walk to most of Hanoi's main central attractions.\

The staff at reception are extremely helpful and, despite the ubiquitous curfew in Central Hanoi, you will have no problems in returnign here after-hours.

Most rooms are also equipped with a PC.\

Staff have great English but if there are any further complications just ask to speak to the manager. He is from England and will know exactly what you're talking about.

Definitely recommend a stay here for comfort and heat in the winter!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a computer!

Can't find bad things to say about Hanoi old town hotel... Perfect location in the old town, rooms are neat and clean, but most of all the service is excellent!!! The girls at the reception are the best, helpful and very kind.. They're a valuable source of information and they speak a perfect English. And the rates are cheap. Definitely a top hotel!

I don’t make a habit of writing reviews but I had such a lovely stay in this hotel I just had to write something for them. The hotel is easy to get to and perfectly situated in the old town. The room was absolutely spotless with a flat screen TV, air-con, fridge and I had the best night’s sleep in the huge bed. The rooms also have free wi-fi which I haven’t had before at a budget hotel. The owners and staff are young, friendly and super helpful, they are very clued up on what to do and where to go around town and happy to help with ideas for your onward journey as well.
I didn’t eat at the restaurant because there were so many nice places to eat within walking distance, so I can’t comment on the food but as I understand it, it has recently come under new management so I am sure they will be up to the same standard as the rest of the hotel. This really is a great place to stay and amazing value for money, recently refurbished and a little haven from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi, I have no problem recommending this hotel to anyone.

This was a great find in Hanoi. The hotel is good value for money, in a good location in the old town, with spacious and very clean rooms. All rooms come with their own computer with good speed internet access. Easily the best thing about the hotel though is the staff. The young owners (an English guy and his Vietnamese girlfriend) are very friendly and helpful, both with things to see/do in Hanoi, and with our trip further south.

There was a lot of street noise from our room, which was at the front of the building, though at night it got pretty quiet on the streets - the only thing to be aware of is that noise starts around 7 or 7.30am in the mornings, so we didn't really get much sleep beyond then. And the beds are pretty firm, but this seems to be the standard across Vietnam.

Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for value for money, and friendliness and helpfulness of staff.

Room Tip: Go for one of the rooms at the back of the hotel if possible.

Having been to Hanoi nearly 20 years ago, I wasn't expecting much from the standard of hotels but was amazed to find this little gem.
This place has been refurbished recently so my room was basically brand new. It came with a flat screen TV (cable), fridge and even a PC (something I've not seen in a budget hotel before) - although I didn't use it as I used my own laptop with the hotel's free wifi.
Complimentary breakfast was better than most other places I've been to as well.
The staff were welcoming and all of them spoke good-excellent English. I booked a boat tour around Halong Bay and the staff arranged this for me and gave me lots of information about the meeting place and what to expect. They obviously know their stuff.
Overall, a good location - I felt very safe even in the early hours, and well worth the money. I can't think of ANY bad points or reasons NOT to recommend this place.

We stayed at Hanoi Old Town Hotel recently for five nights. The hotel has many strengths - the service was incredibly good and staff genuinely concerned to ensure we were enjoying ourselves and were comfortable. The rooms are large and well equipped with air-conditioner, flat screen television and a fridge. The location, too, is difficult to beat. While the traffic can be noisy early in the mornings, there are plentiful bars, restaurants and food stalls within a short walk. In terms of possible improvements, however, I think the restaurant - particularly the breakfast menu - needs to be reconsidered. The space itself seems under-utilised and is not particularly welcoming. When we went (only twice, because we preferred to pay to eat elsewhere rather than eat at the hotel for free), there was only one item available on the menu - and it wasn't pho, which was disappointing. The hotel has recently changed management but expect that they will look at opportunities to improve this aspect of their service.
