Owner description: A rare breed of turtle enjoys this popular lake almost as much as countless locals and tourists. Hoan Kiem Lake is a dynamic daily tableau, from morning walks amid locals doing exercises on the shore, to young couples water-gazing on park benches, to the multiple shopping and sight-seeing opportunities in the vicinity. Centrally located in the city, Hoan Kiem Lake serves as a massive home base, and provides endless people-watching and recreational opportunities on the edge of the Old Quarter.

“Beautiful in the day...MAGNIFICENT @ Night! Take your camera & Tripod!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

My favorite part of my stay in Hanoi was walking around the lake area during the day but especially at night when all the locals are out enjoying the serenity of the area. Lot's of activity each night and amazing places to take photos. Beautiful!!! Great little ice cream places when you need to cool off. Enjoy!

“Walk around the lake and take lots of pictures”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2014

The lake ,at least for me,served as a guide/ landmark so that i won`t get lost. It is in the middle of almost everything - near our hotel and near many tourist attractions. We had a nice walk around the lake. The park was clean and well maintained with lots of benches, where you can sit , rest , watch the locals or just admire the view. We also went to the small temple . There was an exhibit of a huge turtle. This place is popular among locals and tourists.

“Lovely place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

Gorgeous place in a bustling city. Quite busy, we were an attraction amongst the tourists/locals (3 kids blonde hair/blue eyes). A bit overwhelming at times. Quite smoggy (or overcast?) but beautiful park area for kids to stretch legs. Good opportunitys to engage (7,4 & 20 month) children with stories of the turtle and swords. Beautiful shrines inside with lots of various offerings (great discussion points with children). Stroll up to dragon sculpted hedge with the world in hands icon, kids loved it!

“One of the main attractions in Hanoi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

Pity about the haze/smog in the city otherwise, it would look even better. Managed to see some lotus flowers in bloom. The water doesn't look too clean. Ex-french buildings surrounding the lake are worth a look.

“Good break from all sorts of walking”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

It's really a nice place to take a break after some walking around the old quarter, just chill along and take a breath. Enjoyed the night view of the lake as reflections of the surround buildings can be seen gracefully on the waters. Rather peaceful. :)
