“Good rooms and breakfast but male staff needs charm school”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2012

We had a nice size room here facing the back of the hotel so we were sheltered from the street noise. Surprisingly good breakfast buffet especially the beef soup (pho bo). Some of the male staff, esp. the weekend front desk guy, could really use some basic instruction on how to be courteous to people. He was rude to me and bossing around the other staff. None of the staff had any idea which restaurants to recommend. When I asked for a spa recommendation they suggested Anam Spa which I tried. It was awful and expensive.

Room Tip: Ask for a free upgrade with a room not facing the street; they will negotiate room rates esp. if you...

Hanoi can be overwhelming--crowded, dirty, crazy traffic--so it was good to return to this small hotel after wandering the streets and seeing the sights. On the plus side, the breakfast buffet is bountiful with choices ranging from pho and congee to cold cereal, internet use is free in the lobby, the desk is very helpful and efficient, and the location is central making it easy to get around the city. They were very helpful when our Halong cruise got cancelled and we needed the room back unexpectedly--they did not take advantage and upcharge us. The only negative is the room was a bit worn and old-fashioned. Bathrooms could use some upgrading. Overall, I recommend.

Although this is not a really ritzy place, the common areas and rooms are quite nice, clean and in good repair. The staff are very pleasant and helpful, and all speak decent English. The location is really good -- right by Hoan Kiem lake, but not in the really noisy part of the French Quarter where so many of the boutique hotels are. I got a free upgrade (just by asking nicely) to a very nice corner room (802) with windows facing in two directions. The room wasn't huge, but had a comfortable queen bed, a big closet, one side chair/table, a small desk and a fridge. The restaurant was decent, and reasonably priced. I like this hotel for its proximity to all the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter, the quiet location, and the ease of access to the more Vietnamese shops and restaurants south of the lake.

I stayed here for one night on an unexpected stopover in Hanoi whilst on business in Vietnam. I arrived at the hotel at arround 8pm and was offered a discounted walk in rate. The room was huge, with a lovley bathroom and a view over the park and lake.

Service was excellent throughout my stay, and provided me with lots of suggestions of places to see before my afternoon flight.

I only ate breakfast at the hotel, which was a very good international style buffet.

Highly recommend .

From the moment one steps into the white marble floored reception area and airy lobby lounge, the Zephyr boutique hotel is a great choice. It's quiet, contemporary decor and charming, sophisticated art create an inviting retreat. During our five day stay after taking in the Ho Chi Minh Museum, his open air house and mausoleum as well as the History, Army and Ethnology museums, and summoning courage to cross streets in the Old Town while hundreds of motor bikes plow through the cross walk, we looked forward to
relaxing in the lobby lounge with a drink or delectable dessert
while watching the flow of motor bikes and street vendors with baskets hanging from their shoulders, or perusing the excellent Vietnam News. We also noticed that the lobby lounge is a popular place for quiet business discussions. Breakfasts at the Zephyr are generous and excellent, combined with gracious service. We enjoyed dinner there every evening at extremely reasonable prices. We did wander over to the Metropole for drinks but preferred being part of the city life at the Zephyr instead of the insular world of the French Quarter.

Stayed here in 2009. Brilliant location - an easy walk to central Hanoi and just over the road from the lake. Very helpful staff, and rooms cleaned impeccably each day.

Like most it has a very nice lobby with free wifi and 2 public computer terminals and a small bar/ cafe. Rooms are clean and comfortable but beds are rock solid (common in vietnam) we had to insist on blankets to sleep on but it didnt help much.
The location however is fantastic and the friendliness and the service of the staff makes this place great.
Put wifi in the rooms, soften the beds and this place would tick all the right boxes.
I will be recommending to friends and clients.
