“Location is everything!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Galaxy hotel sits at a roundabout with each street that leads off giving you a different slice of Hanoi.

The Cho Dong Xuan market is within walking distance. It doubles up as a night market. The Hoan Kiem lake, around which are situated the best cafés and restaurants, is a 10/15 min walk from the hotel.

The room size was decent for the category we had booked but the bath-room was a bit cramped thanks to the largish bath-tub.

The breakfast buffet is not very elaborate and offers a selection of continental and Asian fare in addition to few custom options. The street-level restaurant on the premises serves good food while offering views of the main thoroughfare.

Oh and right outside the property is a three storied barbecue-style joint that serves goat-meat exclusively. It is very popular with the locals and we couldn't get a toe in on NYE's!

This hotel is very clean and reasonably priced. It is located in a good postion about 10 min walk to the lake. The staff are friendly and there is a basic restaurant attached to the hotel which serves okay food if your too lazy/tired to go out.One small problem is that it only has one lift so you may have to wait especially if a tour group has arrived and are checking in.The night market is also not to farfrom this hotel

This was the oldest of the hotels we stayed at on our 3 week tour. We stayed here a number of nights between trips to other sections of northern Vietnam.
Even though the rooms were average, it is in a good location for the Old Quarter, staff are generally friendly and being on a busy corner, it is a great location for photographing the passing traffic which is so interesting!
Breakfast was average.
The first room we stayed in had an ok outlook in a quiet part of the hotel but another time we were relegated to an inside room, ie no views. Not that it mattered, we were only in that room one night, though it was slightly smaller too. No coffee was supplied in the rooms, only tea.
As with all hotels in Vietnam, the rooms were clean but had hard beds.

We stayed here for 4 nights at the beginning of our tour. Our room was not really like the photos - it was quite dark as the bathroom and kitchen area were on the outside wall. But I guess that meant that it was not so noisy!

This hotel is fine - nothing special, but nothing really to complain about. It's quite an old hotel (and it shows), so if you're fussy I suggest you try somewhere else. It is not that far to the lake, but walking through the Old Quarter is slow going so it can take about 20 minutes when there's lots of traffic and people around (mid-late afternoon).

The service in the bar/cafe was great and the ice-cream was the best value we found in Vietnam (and very delicious)!

Stayed at this hotel as part of a tour group. Hotel rooms were fine and comfortable. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to the lake though so I wouldn't choose this hotel again. Breakfast was ok not a lot of choice but sufficient. The Pho was alright though. Staff were a bit grumpy some days. Small bar area with snack meals available. One street across from the night markets. Bakery 50m down the road.

We stayed at the Galaxy Hotel for 4 nights upon our initial arrival in Vietnam. The location was terrific because it is right in the Old Quarter, so there are many interesting walks through the city easily available. The hotel itself was really good and provided nothing that we can complain about! Our room was good except the bathroom light fixture being out. When I complained, a person was at our room before I could take the elevator back there. The breakfasts were really good, starring that wonderful Vietnamese coffee (too strong for some people's taste). We also ate/drank in their little restaurant and it was also good.

There is a wonderful massage place within walking distance of the hotel (NQ Spa). The hotel can make reservations for you and explain its location. The only bad part was trying to cross the streets with hundreds of motorbikes swirling all around you.

The Galaxy is not a 5-star hotel, but was very satisfactory in all ways for the 16 in our tour group.

Nice small hotel with very helpful staff. Everything worked (you can't say that about most hotels in Vietnam) Room size was OK and we weren't disturbed by the traffic noise.Room was clean and no foreign smells Bathroom was good enough although i am not a fan of shower curtains.
There is a small park across the road out the front that gave a feeling of space and the location was good in that it is in the interesting old part of town.
