“Melia Hotel a Must”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2010

My friends and I travelled to Vietnam and did all the booking for our holiday via the internet and with the help of Tripadvisor reviews. We decided on paying a little extra for the Deluxe Royal Service and stayed on the 19th floor. Well worth the extra as check in was on the 20th floor, which also hosted a Happy Hour. The drinks during Happy Hour and the wonderful food which accompanied them was all part of the deal and amazingly good value.
The rooms were spacious and very well appointed. Good bathroom toiletries, towels, amenities. Breakfast was excellent with a really good choice of both Western and Vietnamese.
The location of the hotel was perfect for what we wanted and the traffic not too bad. Learning to cross the road is an art, but when you are told to step off and just keep going, do just that. All the motor bikes, bikes and cars will find there way around you.
All the staff at the hotel were most helpful. Thank you Melia for a great introduction to Vietnam.

We had a great stay at Melia Hanoi. Staff were very friendly and made our stay very pleasant. We were upgraded to an Executive Suite for our three nights - very nice! We can recommend the buffet dinner - great value and so much food. You'd be pretty hard to please if you don't like it! Buffet also includes all you can drink beer, wine and soft drink and from memory, think it was around $27.00 USD per person. Hotel is about 10 minutes walk from lake and then further into the Old Quarter. A great place to Quan An Ngon is also a short walk from the hotel.

The hotel is about 10-15 minute walk from the city centre but the roads are not too busy to cross. The first room I was allocated smelt of smoke , so I refused it and was upgraded without fuss to an executive room on the 15th floor. Very spacious lobby. Try the fish cafe opposite the entrance it has some very interesting specimens on the menu. Also a visit to the water puppets is must

Last month i was in Hanoi, when i leave the hotel, i put one bag with different things on the bellman table. When my friend come to pick up the bag. 2 expensive cream of La Prairie Cream was disappear. When i made the complaint, the hotel management ask me. "Do you have any evidence that we keep the cream for you." It isreally the truth that they asked me this question. So please take very carefully when you sleep in Melia Hotel in Hanoi.

This hotel is simply awful. We experienced indifferent service that was not evident anywhere else in Vietnam.
Our 1 meal there was super expensive and very average. Breakfast were very poor also.
I would recommend that you spend your money anywhere else.

I travel a lot and stay in Plenty of hotels. 35 years and hundreds and hundreds of hotels. The Melia Hanoi is a very nice hotel and I recommend it - totally. The food is fantastic - really. Check out the huge shrimp on the lunch buffet. The fish is fantastic. The rooms are very clean and well stocked with every top shelf amenity. The Ha Loa prison (Hanoi Hilton) is one block away and a must see.
