This had been said by others and it is indeed the best location in Hanoi, being on the edge of the bustle, which can be overwhelming. Looking out of our hotel window to the Opera House square below, one could indeed be in Paris, surrounded by beautiful Belle Epoque architecture. I cannot fault the service, cleanlines or friendliness of the hotel staff. The room was on the large side and the bathroom was one of the biggest I have seen in any hotel, and I travel the world year round, usually staying in 4-star or more hotels. The breakfast in the restaurant was abundant - catering to all styles of food; on the generous side in the Executive lounge as well. In the evening, there was live classical music in the lobby provided by a string quartet or guitar trio. I have rarely experienced this in any hotel, particularly one that is not all that 'high-brow'. I would recommend this hotel in an instant.

Very good hotel with all facilities : Swiming pool, Fitness Center, Internet in the rooms.
Rooms are comfortable and spacious, with bath and shower in the bathroom. I stayed in executive floor where service is very good. Very friendly and efficient staff.

Arguably the best location in Hanoi for tourists. Its right next to the Opera house so hard to miss. Very comfortable hotel with a price to match. Not the friendliest of service which is expected for a 5 star but not rude all the same. The 3 piece string set in the evenings is a nice touch and rooms are quite nice. Love the toiletries. Cleanliness gets a bad review though because of an incident in one of my trips when I found a beer bottle cap in my tomato basil soup from room service. Duty manager was quick to respond with an apology from the chief, bottle of wine and box of chocs but the damage was done and I'll never eat in the hotel again.

Management response from Mark Deere, Marketing & Communications Manager
(Management representative)
May 21, 2009
In response to Zangtoi,

On Behalf of the Hotel Management at the Hilton Hanoi Opera I would like to thank you for taking the time to write about your experiences during your stay here in Hanoi. Of course, while we welcome constructive feedback, it is always with a great degree of concern and especially so when we receive a negative comment about the quality of our food for which we are normally highly praised. I am delighted that the Duty Manager and Chef at the time handled the complaint and do I recall in January your comments were shared with the Management Team. Following this we spent considerable time investigating what could possibly have happened to cause you to receive a lower than acceptable dining experience.

I would firstly like to reassure you (and others) that we have, as part of the Hilton family, rigorous and stringent training, control and food preparation standards in place at every stage of our production and service process and our management team is regarding your comments most seriously as this is feedback that we rarely receive.

Our Chef at the time personally communicated with all of our suppliers and reinforced with them the fact that we are only prepared to accept the very highest quality of products. Furthermore, I have reviewed our internal quality control standards to ensure that this is indeed the case. We continue to monitor the level of performance of each individual chef and waiter and continue to ensure that we deliver all of our products to every guest with the level of consistent quality and excellence that our reputation demands.

Thank you again.

Yours sincerely

Mark Deere

Hanoi is beautiful, full of small streets, but it is also very poor and when you enter the Hilton, you feel like in a different world. They have same amenities as anywhere in the world. As a Gold card member, we got upgraded and got club access, which is really good, full of nice hors d'oeuvres and great american breakfast. Rooms are typical Hilton, Lobby is a little bit 'too' big and uninviting. If you can get it at around 100euro/night its good price, otherwis, check out Sofitel Metropole for character.

Have stayed at Hanoi Sheraton and Fortuna, and my first time at the Hanoi Hilton.

Picked up at the airport by the hotel car, which is a BMW 5/7 series, and you can select the ipod music, very cool.

The hotel lobby is the typical large atrium, 5-star wanna-be, a little dated look. The check-in process was decently quick. Immediately noticed there were the Mont Blanc and Dunhill boutiques, but I doubt tourists came to Hanoi for these. The Metropole has Cartier and LV, so 1 up on a non-critical service for them.

The room has the same wanna-be look. The tv is the old cathode ray type, and the remote was so worn that all the white print was missing, not good. The toilet has a very small shower cubicle and I don't envy any large sized customers. The only plus point is that I think it has better sound-proofing that most hotels in Vietnam, which is a necessity considering how all the vehicles love to use their horns in Vietnam.

The gym and pool are very shabby. They are both very small, and looks worn, not very inviting.

The hotel is located near the Hoan Kiem Lake and of course, Opera House, which is nice. It is also close to quite a few decent art galleries, if you're into this sort of thing. I still find Hanoi and HCMC very noisy cities with thousands of bikes trying to run you down at every opportunity, so all these walk-abouts are pretty stressful.
